Some of you may be aware that I'm descended from a Titanic Survivor, and that has led to the meeting of many Titanic enthusiasts. One of which asked me to do a sculpt representing young Ned Parfett, the newspaper boy who stood outside London's White Star Line office after the disaster.

Image

It's not a complete carbon copy of the photo, but the overall pose is similar enough to meet the requirements. As a teenage lad, he is smaller than the usual 28mm adult sculpt.

Image

I really need to work on my putty blending as it looks awful when blown up to this size in the photos. Head and hands are also a little big when compared to reality, which is a common issue with miniature figures. I'm also going to redo his left foot, as the toe shape is incorrect. There is also another paper in his lower hand that I need to add.

Then it's just a case of painting him up. :)

This looks like a very interesting project and you've gotten to a great start. I'll be looking forwards to seeing how he turns out though at the moment he looks a little too happy. Good luck.

A very nice one.
but the head needs a few changes, he's looking far to cheerful.

looking forward to the next update.

Hmm yes, he does appear a little too smiley now you mention it - although I don't think the angle of the camera helps.

That looks really good, but his face looks more grown up than it should, IMO. I'm not really sure how you could change that though, and it really isn't that big of a problem, I just thought I should tell you. Other than that though, it looks fantastic! I'm looking foreward to seeing it finished.

Been making a new head tonight. I'm not that happy with the existing one now I've seen it magnified, and the angle of the head isn't right either.

Well I made a few changes. Much happier with the second head. It's probably a little oversized if I'm honest but the customer cleared it so I painted him up.

Very nice, I like him. Nice job on the basing too, a simple thing that can sometimes be overlooked, but it complements the overall effect nicely. :yay:

I just used Arial Narrow font on MS Word at size 3 and 2.5, then print at max dpi. Paper then appled like a transfer onto the sculpted 'poster'.

Excellent sculpt on a very small figure - great stuff!
This could be a new line for you - figures from history, recognised but unknown, like some of the famous photos in National Geographic and Time.

Hi,
Ned Parfett is my great uncle. Is there any way of purchasing one for my father, also Ned in his honour?
Best regards,
Dominic
