Been working on a few Judge Dredd sculpts recently for an upcoming game.
They are made by Mongoose Publishing in Swindon, Wilts. The rules are free to download. Warlord are now also selling them.

The first is a street judge -

The second is a Psi judge (Psychic) like Anderson in the film, the new film is great by the way.

Got a few more nearly finished, will post when ready. Thanks for looking

I like the rubble and road like bases. It gives it a good urban warfare feel.

Very nice indeed. Really great work on the Bren Gun Carrier. I am sometimes tempted to buy some historical minis to paint, but then I remember I have 100s of fantasy minis sitting in my wardrobe looking for some love!

Every time I see a Bren Gun carrier I think of the story Spike Milligan told of driving one and being fired upon by German artillery so he sheltered behind a hill while the Lieutenant tried to find a way out of it that did not involve exposing them to more fire or driving into a minefield. Milligan was in the drivers position with the LT a few yards in front engrossed in reading the map when 3 German paras popped out from some rocks. Milligan tried to reach for his tommy gun but it was jammed in the footwell. The LT (without turning to see what was going on) told him to stop fideting as it was a distraction, to which Milligan replied 'There are some Germans here. sir'. Again, without turning around, the LT said 'Well, what do they want?'
Milligan looked at the paras who raised their hands. 'They want to surrender, sir'. Yet again, without turning, the LT said 'Tell them to go away - we haven't got the facilities!'
It ended up with the LT chasing the bemused paras back into the rocks, shooing them along with his map.

Excellent story Dorthonion, made me laugh out loud.

In a similar vain, Warlord are bring the miniatures of Dad's Army out next year, should be fun to paint

They look really great! I'm just about to take delivery of two SAS jeeps and a Centaur- what paint are you using for the armour? Olive Drab?

Nice, are they the North African SAS jeeps? Check out "offensive minatures" really nice models, just got the SAS Chevy truck

The colour is a Vallejo medium bronze green no. 019 from the model air range.
Olive Drab is fine as colours varied all over the place during the war.

I also used a lot of oil washes and powder colours. Have you looked at the Tamiya 1/48th scale kits, the size fits well. Just finishing Rommels Greif half track, lovely model. Look forward to seeing your pics

Thanks for the tip- I'll pick some up. Do you gloss varnish before the oil washes and pigments? I've never painted a tank before, so quite looking forward to it!

The SAS jeeps I bought were Warlord Games N/W Europe. They're for my Commandos so I'm actually going to convert them in to airborne (and by convert I do of course mean not glue all of the bits on! :D).

Offensive minis is a good tip- I'm planning an Afrikacorp force next, and plan on some Indiana Jones style RPG/Wargame fusion hilarity. May have to pick up that rather tasty looking Blitz Truck. It's just dying to have the Ark of the Covenant loaded in to it!

HI Mertall, yes i use a gloss varnish, its a well known strange modelling product "Pledge Klear", its crystal clear tough, thin and dries quickly, spray before applying decals so they stick better, then afterwards for washes pigments to sit on. Then a matt varnish, Vallejo, then more pigments as the Matt varnish darkens them.

I added Saurman for scale purposes. This model has just been glossed ready for washes and pigments. It currently looks "out of the factory" and desperately needs weathering!

Pledge eh? Pro tip!

That's some sort of modified Hanomag?

Excellent paint job. Really top notch! Now make it dirty!!!

Yes, slightly shorter wheel base, used as Rommels radio car in which he used to travel. The "Greif" means Griffin in English. The model is actually 1/48th scale by Tamiya, but fits in well with Bolt Action, which is just slightly smaller at 1/56th scale.

I have the Perry Brothers African Korp figures to paint sometime to go with it.

Post subject:  Re: Bolt Action Bristish Army with Bren Gun Carrier

I'd love to see them painted up, and next to some Warlord Games figures for scale, if you can be bothered- I was tempted by them, but am a bit nervous that they won't match nicely- they look a bit more like realistic than "heroic" scale.

Are you playing much? I and a couple of mates have only just got started. One brit (me- Commandos of course!), one US airborne and a German Heer player, who gets to taunt us all with awesome tankage :D.

We're playing late war NW Europe. Unimaginative but easy to settle on!

Post subject:  Re: Bolt Action Bristish Army with Bren Gun Carrier

I play about a game a month, not enough and will play more now as more and more people in the Swindon gaming club are showing an interest and asking for games, its a game on the up and up i think. We also mainly play NW Europe and Russian Front. The North Africa is something more long term.

Pics as requested, sorry low light conditions

The Hanomag is Warlords plastic kit, a nice model but i do think its to small. The Bren Gun carrier is Warlords resin kit, this year they are bringing out a plastic kit version.

The scale difference is not noticeable IMO. What do you think?

Great work Paul.
Am I right in saying you have used powder pigments for the camouflage stripes or are they spray gunned on ?
I haven't heard of the pledge way of varnishing before, do you use that on your LOTR figures ?
