Wasn't sure where to put this post, but here seems to makes sense.

After growing dissallusionment with War of the Rings rules ( and recent Gothmog thread has just further enhanced that frustration), I am looking to find another way to play.

I do enjoy the Black Powder rules set, and its ancients variant; Hail Caesar and feel this would be a good way to play large battles of Lord of the Rings.

I know John at Plastic Legions blog has expressed an interest in developing this.

Perhaps here could be a place to get some ideas together on the various required stats for units in the game, for those familiar with Black Powder and Hail Caesar more specifically.
regards
Scott

Miniatures are expensive and rules are cheep take a look at these: http://larsen-family.us/~1066/index.html
I have not read Black Powder. I will if any one in the group wants to play it.I find that it is often not the game but the army lists that cause the problems. Hail Caesar will be out of period and you will have to create your own special rules exceptions and army list. You will be back where you started.Read the scenarios and explanations on the above site and create a decent army list based on facts and reason rather than selling figures. If you pick unites by how the special rules work you are missing the point.

Hi Scott - yes that Gothmog thread was pretty convoluted, eh? I think it a very good idea but it is very likely that since this a GW LOTR forum you may not find enough players who also are familiar with HC (which is after all one of a number of historical rulesets). It might be worth looking into using the Warlord Games forums instead - they seem to have quite a good atmosphere and might be open to extending their sets to other areas of wide appeal? Crosslinking over a couple of forums to broaden your set of contributors might not be a bad plan though :)

Oldman Willow A similar thing has been done with Impetvs (which is the Ancients ruelset I play) but I always preferred WOTR because I've found only a few changes need to be made to fix a couple of issues. I don't think they will strike too many problems adapting HC to fit LOTR since it actually has very few of what we would consider 'fantasy ' elements like spells on the battlefield,.

Those wishing to help or be involved please go to

There was a set of rules by chipco i think, fantasy rules 2nd ed, that supported all types of fantasy, looks good in 15mm with rules for 28mm.
