I see what you mean but typically you take archers just so you can deal with other archers. Your 4 bowmen aren't going to help too much haha. Taking the BS shaman will give you a 2d6 range thing, plus your trolls can throw str 8 stones in addition to hurling soldiers, and even the goblin king can throw his goblin warriors!

To be honest with such a large hobbit goblin army, you will never be able to really shoot toe to toe with archery armies, so I wouldn't worry about goblin bowmen. If you REALLLY wanted archers, Moria prowlers are a bit better and also have throwing weapons and are good in melee, but they cost more so you will have to figure that out. But I still don't think 4 archers will change anything.

Only worry about goblin archers when you can take about 20 or so of them. Also, NEVER have your troll throw stones unless they're in a fort or something. Also, never throw a goblin with your King. Trolls and the King have such horrible aim that it's a waste of moving and of a goblin. HOWEVER, when you win a combat, I would consider throwing whenever you're against a single warrior and there are several other warriors nearby, it's definitely worth it.

The reaosns you should take a Moria detatchment to ally with Goblin Town are:

a) more troop variety
b) to get spears
c) to get Shaman(s)
d) to get more monsters.
e) to get drums and certain heroes

Goblins do not want bows in this way, they move so much as an inch and you will miss, you really need them in combat.

Spears are pointless when GT Goblins have chittering hordes though, surely?

I might rethink.... I'll keep you posted. Back when I played (2000) bows of any sort were a precious commodity in any number... guess times have changed!

Bows are still good overall but when it comes to 4 bowmen it won't shift mountains. But it is only a 4pt investment so really no big deal either way

If it was me using goblins, I would probably spread out the warbands trying to mix them with good stuff and bad stuff

Goblin king warband would get elite goblins like prowlers or gundabad scum and 1 troll and remain cannon fodder horde

1 Golblin warband with shaman, goblins and 1 troll
another warband with similar gear, least you could benefit from each warband having least 1 bulky monster and some cannon fodder to hold the lines, knowing youre warbands are similar, makes easy for you to balance the tide of battle with strong and weak point and adjust the army accordingly

Cannot mix, but allying in Moria warbands is legal and advised.

A very good, experienced Goblin player told me, "Drums are not worth it, ever." Black Shield drummer, if you must.

Better is Groblog plus Shamans to save 1/3 of your wounded.

I love Druzhag: enraged Giant Spiders will kill anything---and any toy spider the right size and nicely painted will do--or pick up some plastic Warhammer spiders on EBay if you must go official for GW tournements.

Having rarely played Goblins myself---but having been tromped by them several times---I can tell you: their only strength is numbers. Minimum 60 models for a 700 point game. More is better. Don't be too tempted by all the great but expensive options: numbers!
That said...
Definately take Goblin King, the new Stat Inflation star. I killed three dwarves with one (lucky) Hurl. The fat guy is awesome; he was trampling Goblins just for the fun of it.

Drums really not worth it? That's a shame... They seem so good on paper. I might give one a go to see. Saves me buying models I guess!

whoever told you drums are not worth it i'm afraid are wrong. Definatley go with the Gundabad one but they are so worth the points. It counts as an 18" banner to all goblins and gives them the usual courage buffs etc. My 1000pt goblin list has near 90 goblins plus a drum and the goblin king and shamans etc. I did have a 1000pts list that had 130 goblins in it but it lacked hitting power.

If you really want to make goblins good, ally in a shade from Angmar and keep as many fights as possible with 6" of it. Watch the forces of good fall

The wraith you are referring to is the Shadow Lord. He can only be taken under the Mordor list.

The dwimmerlaik is much more potent I find as his special rule makes heroes think twice about spending might points. If you have the shade with it's annoying special rule, good bye heroes and all perfectly themed.

if he want a themed army for Moria, its goblins only he will include and all sorts of evil things in it, leave angmar out of the table

Ideally I want Goblin themed in entirety. As in, Trolls are fine; the goblins kept them. Others don't quite fit as well... The shade's stats are godlike, though.

Galanur, you really aren't helping lol. Over 700 pts, I would ALWAYS take a Gundabad Drum.

Gundabad drums better then? Didn't they used to be a lot cheaper (points-wise) than they are now, or am I misplacing my memory?

Yeah, they used to be 20 pts cheaper, but they're still better as they can keep up with your horde and still drum.

^ Or, as above but slightly lax on the Goblin theme but allowing for more interesting model variety:

1000pt:
Great Goblin+12 Warriors
Scribe+12 Warriors
Grinnah+12 Warriors
Gundabad Shaman+Gundabad Drummers+8Bowmen+2Cave Trolls
Druzhag+6Wargs+2Bats+4Spiders

Then for 1250, add:
Shade+4 Orc Warrior+3 Orc Tracker
Dwimmerlaik on Fellbeast

...Just for fun!
