Hi,

I am new to LoR but not new to miniatures having some experience with Flames of War.

Just curious about the Mines of Moria Hobby set (the set complete with paints).

Is it worth the $$$ ?

Also looking at the Games Workshop tool set. What is the quality like ?

Looks a bit cheap n' nasty from the online pics.

Cheers,

Arthur.

Hi and welcome to the site!

I have some tools from the GW set and they have worked well. The clippers are very nice because one side of the blades is completely flat so they don't cause any scars or damage to the miniature. They are quite soft though; I tried to cut too hard steel wire (my other clippers cut through the wire easily) with them and ended up having a pair of clippers with a hole in the middle. For plastic and miniature metal they are good. The files are a lot better than my old set. And the black rubbery thingie for holding minis while the glue dries is also good, I use it for all kinds of other small repair jobs too.

Thanks Valpas,

I'll have a look.

Any idea about the Mines of Moria stater box ?

Or would I be better off buying the main rules book and some figures.

I'm mainly interested in the Shire and the main characters of Frodo, Sam,Pippin.Merry, Strider, Gandalf etc.

Any suggestions there?

Cheers,

Arthur

The fellowship can be a little expensive, but the mines of moria set includes the entire fellowship in plastic, so it could be a good way to start. The rule book included with it is small, but it has all the core rules and most of the profiles, so it should be enough. You may also need to buy the Scourging of the Shire supplement for some of the hobbit profiles, but you can do that when you decide to start expanding your army.

Also, I think buying the hard back rule book by itself may be quite expensive, so the mines of moria set may be better value if you don't have a copy of the rules yet.

Whether or not it is worth getting really depends on what you want. If you don't mind the fellowship in plastic, and need a copy of the rules, it may be worth getting.

Well, I clicked on the order button but to no avail.

Seems like the GW online ordering is playing up and won't accept credit card payments.

Its been like that a few days now.

I might have to take a trek to a shop. :(

be careful when ordering online and it plays up, a few months back i tried to put in a big order over the site and something went wrong, my order didn't go through and my £400 spent nearly a week in limbo. It ended well though, just bought in two smaller transactions but i got everything i ordered in the end.

Lesson here : If the order form on the main site is playing up I wouldn't keep trying...

I tried a few times but just kept getting an error message.

I hope it doesn't try to process multiple purchases when it finally comes back online! :(

Might transfer my funds to another account just in case ! :)
