Another question for clarification:

NOTE: This is going off my most recent rule book which is the original Return of the King rulebook and is most likely out of date...

Models that have the Pick up a stone rule (the Hobbits, Treebeard etc) it states that "In the subsequent shoot phase they can throw the rock"

This seems to imply that they can only use the rock in the very next shoot phase, however it feels like they could just carry the rock around around for a few turns and use it when the opportunity presents itself.

My question is: Which is correct?

If you pick up a rock you can only use it in the very next shoot phase (ie same turn)?
Or can you carry it around (represented with a marker or such) and use it in any subsequent shoot phase?

Thanks

No you can use it that same turn but you can not move and perform this action

The "picking up a stone" isn't a literal action in the game, it's just descriptive fluff. So long as you don't move in the move phase (or end up in combat because someone charged you, etc), in the shoot phase you can throw a rock.

Ok

So it's all in the one turn then (no saving a stone for later)

Thanks for the clarification :D

And a smidgen more effective too I might add.

Trolls and Ents are wasted on ranged fire in most case (FAR more effective H2H, especially with Monster rules now) but there are often times that you are standing off for some reason and there's nothing wrong with lobbing a few boulders while you're waiting.
