Post subject:  Questions from first battle

A few questions came up from my first real battle. We decided to make a decision on the spot and keep playing rather than getting bogged down trying to find them. But I thought I would ask them now:

1 Shooting at supporting models.

We got some archers around the flanks of the battle. For the good side, they cannot shoot if a model is engaged in combat (Fair enough) but what about models with spears who are suppoting models in combat? On the one hand they are "in combat" as they participate, but I was thinking I read somewhere that they arn't actually engaged incombat and so can be shot at as normal.

We went with the latter ruling (you can shoot at suppoting models). Is this correct?

2. Backing away and being pinned

There was a big old melee going on the in the middle by late game with a lot of "non-clear" decisions about model who lose fights and where they go when there are other models around.

We kind of ruled that unless the model couldn't move at all, it wasn't pinned, even though this meant that when we moved models back they were within 2cm of other models/fights.

Is the rule?: A model moving back due to a lost combat cannot move closer than 2cm (1") to an enemy model? and Also, if they cannot move back the fulll distance due to this, do they count as pinned? or do you just move tham back as far as you can.

Eg. My noble Orc is fighting off 2 men, another man is in combat 1cm (1/2") directly behind him. If the Orc loses and has to back away, this would take him closer to the man and he cannot back up the full distance. Where do I move him? Halfway between them? Not at all? And as he cannot move the full distance, does he count as being pinned?

THanks

1. you can shoot at supporting models

2. the model moving back can move inside another model's control zone. Technically you don't even have to move "directly away" from the model that won the fight, you can skirt around their zone and end up behind them. Personally I don't like that much, so we have a house rule preventing it, but it's entirely legal.
Either way, if he can't move the full distance he's considered trapped.

Hope that helps!

Spear support can be shot at.

A model must back away a full inch/ 2cm or it is trapped.
In the example you provided, the orc could back into the enemy model's conteol zone but would be trapped when the winner of his combat strikes. The losing orc wouldn't fight the man he backed into, you would just separate them by a mm or so; the orc wouldn't back away into a second combat.

Thanks for the replys

So to sum up:

Shooting at supporting models is fine

Models backing up from combat can move into the control zones of other models

But if a model cannot back up the full distance he is considered trapped

Sounds like we got it right (except for the last one)

Thanks again
