I have the "A Shadow in the East" supplement book and it lists all of Khamul's powers as needing to be cast at one number higher than regular ringwraiths. Is this correct?

Yes it is correct. Exactly the same in the Mordor supplement.

no error as UKFB says, Khamul is a solid fighter, hence his spell casting ability being as bad as Neville Longbottoms'!

Not only is his casting horrible, but his will is only 12. You may as well never use magic with him. I understand that he's supposed to be a "fighting nazgul" but the KoU abilities are quite a bit better for combat, and his spells aren't as horrible.

Khamul has been around for a while now, KoU is recent.
Sad but that's the only explanation behind the differences in casting ability for a combat oriented nazgul.

I get that he shouldn't have that good of casting, but his ability doesn't really make up for it.

Kamul did some nasties in his past that means he sucks at magic.

Before GW got all 40Kish with their made up named Nazgul Khamul was a very nice, balanced and thematic alternative to the standard unnamed Nazgul. If you had him mounted or, preferably, on a FB then he could be very nasty as he could use one of his abilities to boost a key attribute and more than make up the difference with the damage he did. In those situations you could cast spells for a turn or two, even using extra dice if needed, then charge in with the troops supporting and score back some Will. Fall back a little and do it again. With the unnamed Nazgul of the time being pretty exclusively second-line spell support he was really fun to play without being over the top.

The Nazgul cheese pretty much eliminated his competitive use in SBG but they made up for it by making him the most popular girl at the prom in WotR.

I'm so happy that when my kids are old enough to learn SBG the hobby will have transformed dramatically and I can just teach them the parts that I want...the never need to know about some of this. :E

haha Beowulf you liar you! What would your wife say!? :P

Khamul is still fantastic, and when you are using all 9 in a Pelennor style game, the minor differences come into their own. Points wise the newer wraiths are better value for money but Khamul is certainly a household favourite and will remain so (in this household).

I wouldn't be lying really...just withholding inappropriate information. :P

In reality, the Mordor supplement really is nice and in SBG terms the new wraiths aren't really that bad. Plus they gave some options to upgrade WK and keep him to of the heap. I still think, properly played, SBG Khamul is a very good choice and he and WK are the only named Nazgul I have personally played. If I did elect to play one of the others I would probably at least use one of the original generic Nazgul models...then I wouldn't feel as dirty.

I think he, of all Nazgul, needs to have a steed. An extra attack on the charge and knock-down, even on a horse, can really make him worth-while.

yea I dont like him at all.
If i want a melee oriented wraith I'd rather pick KoU and maybe Dark Marshal

Witchking is the best melee wraith surely!
Crown of morgul and a steed. BAM 4 attacks on the charge.

hardly, you dont need 20 will.
I use 14 will, 3 might and fate, crown horse... and I dont really need the might but it saves will by doing heroic combats (2 combats only 1 will expended).

Also dehorsed he is still awesome your wraith is A1... wa wa waaaaaaa

That's still 160 pts. For a mere 10 points more you can get Khamul on Fellbeast. I'm not saying his stats aren't amazing, I'm just saying that he's in a league of his own because of the upgrades that available for him.

My point is that with kamul if I kill his fellbeast (and he is so tall I can nearly always see him) then he is down to 1 attack.
