Post subject:  King's Champion + Heralds Positioning (SBG)
So i've recently purchased and put together my King's Champion (SBG) and his two heralds.

My question is how do we position them so we all get +2 Defense?

In my view there are three possible ways: (note: H = herald, KC = King's Champion) this is all with their bases in contact!

H-KC-H

H
H
KC

H-H
KC

So the rule states that in order to get +2 Defense they must all be in base contact with one another. Does that mean that option three is the only legal way to achieve this? However, once combat is joined, it will be extremely difficult to maintain this formation...

Thoughts?

In our interpretation it is:

H+1
KC+2
H+1

H+1
H+2
KC+1

2 2
H-H
KC
2

This was to balance out offence with defence. If you want them all to get the bonus, odds are only 2 can get into combat. If you want all 3 in there, then you have to give a little.

It's actually pretty easy to peel the heralds away from the Champion, just have someone fight the Herald, win and suddenly the other 2 lose 1 point of defense.

The newest FAQ made this even easier: as soon as a herald is in a different fight than the Champion, both lose their D bonus, even before the combats are carried out!

So the only way to ensure that the bonus remains intact is to keep the heralds out of combat while keeping them in base contact with the champion, like so:

WH-HW
WWCWW

W = Warrior

As soon as the first line takes losses, though, retaining the D bonus will be hard to do. Hooray! :D

If you had them H-KC-H wouldn't the KC have +2 defence as its in base contact with both, but the H's would only have +1 defence? Similarly if you had them KC-H-H then one Heral would hav +2 defence whilst the other and the KC would have +1 defence?
