If I roll a six while attacking a Shade, my roll is reduced to a five. Can I then use a Might point to get it back up to six, as with the -1 from a two-handed weapon ?

Yes, otherwise it would be really unfair and not make sense.

has anyone got any tips of nullifying the shade? or killing it quickly. They are quickly coming a royal pain in the backside and can never seem to get close enough to kill it.

Yeah, it's a tough one. Either break the force, as it has really low Courage and as a Hero can not benefit from other Heroes' Stand Fast! or surround it with Strength 4 guys (Aragorn, mounted Galadhrim Captain, Sons of Eorl).

The only times I've killed a Shade are with bow fire, and a ridiculously lucky charge by a Son of Eorl. We weren't sure if cavalry gets bonuses against a Shade (being an amorphous spirit and all), so we settled on the extra attack, but no knockdown. Still rolled three 6s...

At a local club tourney, we played it as anything get knocked down under str 6, which is as the rules state. (which is annoying cos spiders and wargs get knocked down aswell.)

I normally have to fight my way through 48 warriors to get to said shade and by then, the damage is done and the heroes are dead :(

Isidur with Ring could literally walk through those lines, take a courage test to remove ring and charge the Shade...

hmmm, could work. as long as I pass my courage by more than 6 otherwise the golden king will make him fail it. ally in a war horn methinks.

Nice. Remind me: Golden King can permenantly reduce Courage, or just that turn? If only temporary, than Golden King uses up Will, while Isildur just tests again next turn.

The golden king can choose to expend X will points to change the result of the courage test. He has 6 will. Only problem is being behind the lines, unless the ring is on, I'll get charged quickly and the shade causes terror also.

Doesn't Golden King have to see him to do that? But I don't mind him using up his Will before my army is broken. If Isildur is charged before he moves, he can slip on the ring and vanish. With Courage 6, charging a Shade is no problem.

just has to be within 12" and Isildur will be charged by watchers of karna (back line) when I charge the shade. maybe i'll try it next time I play my friend.

Have you tried to make some cavalry run around the lines instead of through them?

thats my next tactic, gondor knights lead by faramir, boromir and gandalf the white. Using gandalf mainly to harass with SB.

Why are The Golden King and a Shade even in the same army? Unless you're at a touney, you shouldn't even allow that IMO unless he/she can come up with a really really really good explanation.

Because we dont tend to play themed. And it is probable (however unlikey) that shades were in the east. the wraiths visited regularly and I'm sure there were tombs of dead kings etc that the WK could ensource into a shade...

Or a really sweet conversion. A Watcher of Karna rubbing a lamp with a genie coming out of it........on a 40mm base of course. Rule of Cool.

Harad is not in the East though, and I don't think the W-K ever visited Harad or Rhun. Still pretty shakey methinks.

Genies! :o  That's even worse, I don''t think genies are cool anyway, they're as irritating as Ewoks.

Even if the WK didnt visit, the other wraiths would have and I'm sure they are more than capable of sorcery.

Dont insult the ewoks  they are the greatest (and cutest) star wars creations bar the wookies.

Fine, have the justification for your opponent's cheesey list if you want, but I have given you the opportunity to defeat that combo in a different way.

Shoot the Golden King first then, before going for the Shade. He has a low defence, and is very tall.

Ewoks are the worst thing in Star Wars ever, they totally ruined the last film. The Wookies are cool though.
