Post subject:  S.B.G Cavalry Wounds

When a player is in combat against a cavalry model the rules state that the controling player can choose to strike the rider or the mount. What would happen if the player had more than one attack and lands multiple blows?

Can he strike both mount and rider slaying them both or can he only inflict the one wound as stated on the cavalry models profile thus either killing the rider or mount but not both?

The rules are quite explicit about how a winning model allocates and resolves his Attacks. Read the rulebook carefully (One Rule Book and Mines of Moria A5 version) and your questions will be answered.

Care should be taken, especially in large or fast games, to think about what you will do. Each Attack is resolved separately, although most gamers roll all the Attack dice at the same time. In the case of a cavalry model, one might choose to kill the horse outright since that's generally easier than killing the rider (especially if the rider has multiple Wounds on their profile). One might roll an Attack die and if the horse is Wounded then the rider immediately takes a Fallen Rider test, potentially being Wounded in the fall or lying on the ground in the crumpled heap. Further ttacks - from the same model or possibly assistants - against the crumpled heap would then be doubled (two Strikes for each Attack). Ditto if the target is trapped. It's specifically NOT permitted to roll all Attack dice and allocate them, to avoid situations such as 'That 4 will kill the Warg, the 6 Wounds the rider and I'll Might up the 5 to make it two Wounds and kill him...'

Of course killing the rider will automatically cause the Horse to flee; not so with a Warg! Often, targeting the mount makes a huge difference to a game since it removes an extra attack for Heroes when Charging, it slows down Wizards and limits their dash-in, cast-spell, dash-out tactic and annoys animal lovers everywhere.

But I thought cavalry were treated as one model and the stats could be mixed always using the highest. So lets say a def 4 warg has a rider with a def 5, would you not use the higher defence value regardless of who is the target, rider or mount?

The One Rule Book states that only Fight, Strength and Attacks may be taken, if desired, by the player.

Not quite correct, the fallen rider takes place after all strikes have been resolved. page 51 - strikes against mounted models.

And there is no mixed cavarly profile
There are two profiles, one for the rider and one for the mount. and in combat you can use F,S,A from either of them to win the combat and strike.

There actually is for the Warg Marauder, but that's a special case.
