Hi all, with the new rules there are a range of "in the way" values for different obstacles. Which value would you suggest for shooting at models in the Howdah of a mumak?

I would stick with the standard 4+, though I could see 5+ making sense as well, as the Howdah was made as a sort of fortification.

Yeah, there are so many factors. If the Howdah is cloth how much protection is that? But it's also very high, so the impact will be weaker. Are the units up there hiding behind the Howdah for protection or leaning over it to shoot...
I think we might just stay 4+ as you suggest unless there's any other ideas.

The new 5+ is pretty specifically for large hard stone. Sure, it says "purpose built fortifications, but for 4+ it includes tree trunks, and the woven wicker of a howdah isn't that thick. I'd stick with 4+...

Really, it's only cloth and a bit of wicker in the way, so maybe even a 3+, as a tree will stop an arrow way more often than a bit of cloth.....But I think 4+ is probably the way to go, as 3+ seems too easy.

Not just a matter of stopping the arrow, but also a little deflection or slowing that could reduce the chance of causing a wound, as well as simply obscuring the target. I wouldn't consider it a "fortification" though. :-P

I was wondering about this as well. Great post.
I would concur that a 4+ would be fair. Definitely not a fortification.

If the howdah is a fortification, then any picket fence without gaps is a fortification. I have one in my yard :)

I assume you have a picket fence and not a Mumak =) If I'm wrong, can I come visit!

I think we'll go 4+ for shooting at it from a lower elevation but may go to a 3+ if you're shooting from the same height.

I was thinking about that as I wrote my post  ! I could totally see the shooter being elevated, the Howda offering less protection. However... your shooter would need to be quite a way up!
