Post subject:  Prone models standing up

Hi all.
I have a few questions about prone models if anybody can help me out:

1) Can a prone model stand up in it's move phase if it has been charged thus fighting the ensuing combat on foot and not prone?
2) Do prone models crawl 1" AND then stand up at the cost of half a move AND then continue to use up their remaining half move?

Thanks in advance.

No, and no.
If a model has been charged, it can't move, and must fight it's way up. That's the reason for the effectiveness of cavalry and spells like Nature's Wrath.
A prone model can crawl 1", which would be a full move. There is no more moving to be had. I suppose if you wanted to push it, it could crawl 1/2", and then stand up...

And on top of this, when it fights its way up (should the prone model win the fight) he can ONLY stand, he may not make any strikes.
Haha this can into play during this morning's game! :D

Thanks guys.
What is the point in prone models crawling 1" if they can opt to stand up at the cost of half a move?
Could they NOT crawl, stand up and then move their remaining move (usually 3" for infantry)?

Bear in mind guys I have only ever read the Hobbit Rulebook form EFGT. Could anybody give me a page reference for the "fighting your way up"?
Thanks again for all your help.

Sorry, I got the crawling one wrong: per the text, they can crawl 1" (regardless of terrain) after which they can stand up. That is a full move. Alternately, they can stand up and move half (modified by terrain). I don't know why one would crawl, in theory you get more distance the second way. But maybe it's for scenarios where crawling is of benefit.

The fighting reference is on page 40, you can only Fight in order to stand up, but you can't strike blows. It's a good time to use Shielding if the model has a shield, since you get 2 dice and can stand up if you win, and couldn't have struck blows anyway (see page 74).

Cheers. I get it now. The crawling part confused me because it's so pointless.

I was always under the impression that the part of crawling was a sort of stealth mechanism in the game. You could keep hidden from charging warriors possibly and enemy archers. I have yet to see that used effectively though.

You might crawl to stay out of sight from shooting attacks, never done it in a decade of playing though :)

Agreed, never done it either.

With the new rules, there can however be another reason to crawl. If a model is set Ablaze, he can extinguish it by crawling an inch. :) (See the Special Rules section of this.)

LOL, good find. What do you want to bet they did that just so crawling might get used? :)

Haha, maybe they did. Although, if that was the only use, they probably would have stated those rules in the Set Ablaze section.
Anyway, I find the rule pretty funny, and I suppose also fairly realistic.
Is the Set Ablaze rule actually used at all in the rulebook? No mini has it as Special Rule, but maybe it's part of the scenario with the Trolls, for the Trolls' campfire? I only have the small book.

One of the trolls has it as a brutal power attack.

Don't have the book to hand but can't Aragorn and the Hobbits set ringwraiths ablaze in the Weathertop scenario too?

I would have thought being targetted by breathe fire from a dragon would set you on fire.
We'l have to ask Dave he's a fireman :P

If it doesn't, there's something wrong with the rules.

Dragons fire only (currently) inflicts an str10 hit all on models within 2" of the target. Probably because they didnt have the set ablaze rule when the newest sourcebooks were released.
