If an orc shaman casts a fury spell, and later on uses his spear to support another unit in combat, if that unit he is supporting looses the fight, does the fury spell end?

Just trying to figure out if I can get an "over the shoulder" dice roll with him without risking my fury spell

I will direct you to the magical powers section in the hobbit book where you'll find your answer. The way fury works changed when they updated the rulebook.

I'm glad I looked, we've been continuing to play the old way. Fury is on until the caster's Will drops to 0 (exhaustion). No more using that last point to feebly try a Transfix.

@SouthernDunedain: please refrain from RTFM responses.

Actually RKRUSE, that's a very good question and I am glad that you have pointed it out as I had not noticed that the rules have now changed with the release of the Hobbit rule book. The spell will remain in effect until exhaustion, whereby the Shaman has 0 will left.

The former rules involving the Shaman losing a fight are now history! It is well worth noting that the spell can be "Channelled" to make it much more powerful!

what's RTFM?

regardless, this is a fairly easy question to answer if you take 5 minutes to read the rulebook. I don't mind helping with the more ambiguous questions but this is really simple stuff...

What I will say that this is much better IMO than the old way.

Hi SD,

I suspect that RTFM means "Read the F*****g manual"?
The question is pretty basic but we should be happy to offer an opinion on the rules to a new guy, who odds on has encountered this rule during a game and needs help.

I too preferred the old rules by which if a fight was lost that the Shaman was involved in that he would lose the effects of fury. It may leave him realistically having fury for longer but, he will have to keep a crucial will point that could have got a transfix etc in. On balance I feel that the Shaman is in a stronger position.

I thought it might have been something like that but thought nah, no swearing on the OR.

On topic: re the last point of will, casting transfix on a 5+ has never been my strong point so I would usually leave it. The only downside now is it leaves shamans open to a sap will from wraiths.

Totally agree, in ye olden days I always used to hang onto the Will for multiple castings of Fury in case he lost a Fight later on in the game, the 1 in 3 risk of Transfix never seemed worth it to me - that said, there was one glorious game where I managed to transfix an Eagle with a Moria shaman and subsequently kill it and win the game, that was pretty special.

These days my Shaman's are 1 trick ponys. First turn Channel Fury and roll 2 Dice, assuming you get your 3+ he's then just a Fury bubble, can't cast anything else for the rest of the game. If you get double 1s or 2s though you are left with an Uruk spearman with 2 wounds and a 1/3 chance of Transfixing once later in the game - Horrific way to start a game

If there's a Ringwraith on the board I just keep my shaman way back in my half until as and when the wraith's been neutralised.

Thanks for the responses. I am going to Bilbo's birthday bash and I have been using a shaman in a build lately, im just trying to make sure I play it right. If I am upsetting folks I will hold off on questions and go over it with the judge before the games begin at the event. My apologies.
They we be using hobbit rules. I read through them but I thought I remember seeing something about it ends if he is exhausted or if he looses in a fight. Mabye I am adding them both sets of rules.
With support adding thier fight and str,is it now considered in a fight in that sense of the wording.
Its just that some of the rules consider him to be in the fight now, but you cant stirke wounds against him. Heroic combats dont require you to slay him to move to another "fight"? Its just poorly written I guess, or I'm just stupid. Either one you pick :(

I'll go over it again tonight and try understand it. :?

My apologies rkruse, t'was wrong off me to be so blunt.

Exhaustion basically means out of will.

Spears are (still) separate to the fights, despite what the rulebook says. If you check the FAQ's on the GW website, it clears it all up. To successfully complete a heroic combat, you only need to kill the enemies in base contact with the heroic model. Basically as it was before. Silly GW messing things up.
