Post subject:  Bifur heroic strike with his special rule

Hi.
Bifurs special ability give him a free heroic action that onyl he acn benfit from when he is on 1 wound. So in an heroic move/march only he would move, in heroic combat only he could move to the next battle if more models were involved in his fight.
But what about heroic strike. Lets say Bifur and Thorin are in the same fight against a troll, Bifur has one wound and calls a heroic strike, can Thorin benefit from this?
Lets say Thorin and the troll rolls a 6 and Bifur gets double 1, thanks to Bifurs heroic strike their fight value is now higher so they win, is that correct? OR should you only Count Bifurs dice as having higher fight value so you would only use Thorins fight value?

What say you?
have fun

In the example you give Thorin/Bifur would beat the troll. His special rule can only affect himself but that effect when you call a Heroic Strike is to raise his Fight value, the side with the highest Fight value in the fight wins, even if that person did not roll the highest dice.

The rule is intended, as you say, to stop others moving with him as part of a Heroic Move, March or Combat, a free Heroic Strike per turn is actually one of the handiest uses of his rule.

Also note Slaktarn that Bifur's rule says "once he's lost a wound" not "while he has 1 wound left". Making that you could heal him with Oin and still benefit from his free heroic actions each turn

I agree with the good Dr. His side would win the fight.

Thanks for the replies!
I also thought it made most sense if Bifurs side won the fight. It does indirectly make heroic strike into an exception to Bifurs special rule which is why I felt unsure.

JamesR: is this how his rule is played, have not used him yet but I did interpreted it like "when he is on 1 wound". If I played it like you say would I be considered taking advantage of a loophole or would it be accepten like it was the norm?

Thanks again!
Have fun

I think rather than a loophole, healing Bifur with Oin is using the synergy of Thorin’s Company.

It is rules as written. I've always seen it, from a fluff perspective, as he's hit and driven crazy(-er). And once he's crazy he stays crazy, even if his wounds are mended

Yeah as JamesR says it's RAW, there's no mention of it stopping if he regains a wound. Is it how the writers intended? I honestly don't know, I like JamesR's fluff justification so I'd go with that. Similarly, it comes up so rarely it's not worth worrying about, it's not all that common for the enemy to do the wound without killing Bifur and for Oin or Radagast to then heal him is even rarer. It's certainly never happened to me in a game, there's normally someone far more important for Oin to help (if he hasn't been trapped and killed already) and something far more important for Radagast to be doing with his magic!
