For a long time, I've been dissatisfied with the SBG rules regarding Armour, feeling that it is tactically unbalanced. Equipping your units with Armour has great benefits, while the only downside is the increased points cost. Conversely, lack of Armour has many downsides, but no real advantages. For a tactical game, that seems to be going against the spirit of the game. Therefore, I've developed some House Rules that redress this balance.

Armour
+2 cm to movement range.
Add 1 to Climb/Jump/Swim tests (Infantry)

No Armour
+3 cm to movement range.
Add 2 to Climb/Jump/Swim tests (Infantry).

Heavy Armour
Base movement values, as well as Climb/Jump/Swim tests.

Dwarf Armour
+2 cm to movement range.
Add 2 to Climb/Jump/Swim tests. (Infantry)

Dwarf Heavy Armour.
+1 cm to movement range.
Add 1 to Climb/Jump/Swim tests. (Infantry)

If I remember correctly swimming tests are affected by armor.
Your proposal is realistic but it complicates the rules.
Wearing armor has the disadvantage of increasing your points cost while the same warrior without armor would cost less.

I agree, but I don't feel that reflects the tactical spirit. Faster moving units have their own advantages, making the gameplay more diverse.

I've long thought heavy armour on both horses and infantry could apply a 1" penalty, and dwarves would get a special rule to keep their 5" movement. That's as far as I'd take it though, I think your increments are too fine and too much to track in a game.

Also, just a minor quibble, but the game was designed for inches. I know it's a metric world (I'm in Canada after all), but the game's spacial relations seem more balanced and work better with inches. We tried with cms for a while and the game was different (and better) when we converted because the cm conversions are pretty poor and inaccurate.

I wish GW had avoided the whole inch/cm thing and just called them "movement units". But then they'd try to sell special measuring tapes at $20 a pop :)

Ah, the joy of living in America, where everyone uses inches anyway!

Yeah, until they want to go to Mars and the probe craters because of a conversion problem...

LOL, what's really funny is that we fund most of it, it's just one important part that uses cm that screws everything up.

I'm a dual citizen of US and Canada (born in California), and am quite proud of the space accomplishments, esp. the latest Curiosity rover. I just wish we hadn't chickened out back in the 70s when we were going to convert to metric.

Anyway, I went OT, sorry Pathfinder...!

I, like most American's, hate the metric system. Yes, it makes sense and stuff, but dag-gum it, I don't wanna be like the rest o' tha world! Sorry for getting off topic.
