Would it work to begin with etc (not knowing how many riders you can have, do not own the book)16 Riders of rohan and then also having 16 warriors of rohan and mount then up in the begining and then transport them to a tactical position like an objective and then letting the riders attacking the enemy with hit and run attacks and sorts. Then the warriors could defend the position in a united force while the riders split up the enemies force so they can´t do a unified attack.

Would it work?

If you're asking if the tactics would work, nobody can know. But per the rules you're certainly allowed to try. Note that the rule says its not typically used in points matches, so you'd have to clear it with your opponent first.

I would love to see this in action. Imagine using your cavalry contingent to transport a Warband of infantry across the battlefield to take and hold a vital chokepoint or objective before the enemy, forming a shieldwall to hold the enemy off whilst your cavalry then flanks them.

That's genius. You can just carry infantry around the board and drop them off where they need to be. I might try that with my galadhrim knights and elrond, Gil Galad and the twins. Glorfindel could carry gilgalad and then drop him and they would thrash everyone.

Thank you! pure genius has been bestowed on you this day!

This, as whafrog said. You must agree that you can do this with your opponent before you start playing.

In the past carrying passengers has been for specific scenarios only. You can ask your opponent but they are not required to allow it. You also won't be able to do it in any competitions.

I did this a couple of times waaaay back before they basicly binned the passenger rules.
I think there are a few examples in history where they do this, though in reality you can only push a horse so far with two riders.

it works fine, you drop the infantry exactly where you need them meaning you quickly take up a good position in the face of the enemy. Going on to win after that comes down to how well you use your cavalry in combination with your infantry

Thanks for the positive answers :), One idea i got is that you can use this to outnumber enemy cavalry. Example. You mount foot soldiers on horses with riders in the beginning. Then both your cavalry and the Calvary of the enemy attacks each other. The enemies infantry will be longer away which will mean that if you can drop of your infantry you will surely outnumber first the enemy cavalry and then their infantry.

Except anybody with a smidgen of exposure to the game will see that one coming from at least 1/2 the board away...

Well yes, but in a battle of an objective it will be very effective, instead of sending cavalry to engage the enemy over the objective he might go slower to hold his force together. And then it will be like i said in my original post. The rest of the cavalry do sucide charge while the infantry hold the objective

Or he'll mount his infantry on his cavalry too.

I wish that certain models had a little extra rule that allowed them to carry certain passengers without first getting your opponent's permission.

Legolas and Gimli
Glorfindel/Arwen and Frodo
Eowyn and Merry

That would be thematic.

The passenger rule appeared in the Two Towers edition of the rules (2002) as a non-optional rule. It was reportedly used quite widely for example in the TLA campaign at the time and I also used it myself to quickly secure objectives. At that time Rohan was the only faction with plastic cavalry so it applied mostly to just Rohan armies because nobody could afford metal wargs and KoMT didn't exist yet. Caused a lot of grumbling among evil players. :-)

The old sets used to have some funny rules, for example picking up wargear. Like a hero slaying an enemy with a shield and picking that up. Some of those time-consuming rules disappeared at or after the RotK edition when the game grew to a bit bigger scale (from Fellowship vs. goblins to Pelennor Fields style battles).

Just about the rule (since i have problems to find my own rulebook now:() I remember it saying that the passenger cant hit the enemy but can be hit but what happens if the enemy kills the rider? Will the passenger drop from the horse or continue riding it himself. Some really awkward situations can come up like goblins riding horses(in an easterling/goblin alliance) or some understandable with rohan infantry taking over the horse after the original rider has died. They are the horse people after all

if the rider is killed the passenger is auto thrown and the horse flees the battlefield
