I know what I'll say is of topic but anyway... Elves never die in Tolkien's world. Even if they are killed or die of grief. Instead they have to wait on the Halls of a Vala ( I think Maedros', don't remember for sure though) until the end of time. The Valar didn't resurrect Glorfindel, they just let him exit the Halls and return to Middle- Earth. Although I feel that it was Tolkien's way of correcting a mistake.
Some people have written in their comments that Durin can't ally with certain heroes due to time inconsistencies. This isn't stated by the rules, so I assume you mean thematically he can't ally.

True, but elves aren't allowed to return to Middle-Earth once they die, except for Glorfindel.

And yes, thematically, he can't ally with say Denethor.

yeah he can't ally thematically with anyone from the third age except elves as they also lived in the second age, but this is not to say you can't ally him with anyone in the third age and no one really cares it's just personal choice

On the elf thing he was sort of reserected but as you say he wasn't really fully dead as far as I understand it elves never die they just go to the Undying Land where as men doe and go to the Halls of something beginning with M (I forget) and it is thought that mens gift is better in the lonf run as they will feel true freedom and the elves will basically just get bored living after millennia that is why Aragorn 'gives up his life' so his son can take over.

As for Durin's cost that was mentioned earlier you pay top price for a top class hero and also unlike most other expensive units like a Mumak, Dragon or say Elrond he doesn't have a learning curve just put him where the fighting is thickest and watch him not die

couldn't you use all kinds of Durins, like the 1st, second, etc. , as well as the new one, the child of Daín I think.

Durin could well have still been alive in the third age had he not been killed.
After all, dwarfs weren't immortal but they did have massive lifespans

Dwarves live for hundreds of years, but not thousands.

yes, but as far as I know the son of Daín is called the last Durin or something like that, wich means Durin can be used as a 3th age dwarf

The son of Dain is called Thorin II, I think. (3th?)

Never played Durin, because I get Balin for almost half the points. Plus axe. Too good a deal to pass up competatively, but Durin would be fun.

Did some research today, and found ou that the son of Dain is called Thorin III Stonehelm. After him, it's not sure if it's his son, grandson, or even someone after his grandson, but what's sure is that this certain Dwarf is called Durin VII, and that he captures Moria again. So, that means you could use him together with most heroes that survived the 3th Age.

The third Thorin was he.

You could used Durin in a 4th Age battle if you want, but wouldn't that Durin be a bit weaker than the one from the 3rd Age?

He was called Durin again because of his unusual strength

Unusual strength, not the resilience of a Dragon's hide, like the old Durin.
