I've been thinking about making lotr stats for some of my brainchilds:
There has to be someone to train all the soldiers, right:
(these are Gondorians)
Master Archer: An old man who has spent his years teaching rangers how to shoot a bow from the time they could walk.
35p
F:2/2+
S:2
D:3
A:2
W:3
C:5
M:1 W:1 F:3
Carries a resilient old weathered ox hide (light armour)
longbow, throwing daggers and a sword
Can have a horse for 5p
Special Rules:
Inspiring reputation: Any archer within 8cm may re-roll all to hit rolls.
Master Smithy: A middle-age man that has spent many of his years travelling with dwarves, even going so far as to say he has ancestry in dwarfkind.
85pp
F: 4-
S:5
D:8
A:2
W:2
C:5
M:3 W:2 F:1
Carries masterly forged heavy armour and an axe of ancient relics
Special rules:
Lead By Excample: If a Master Smithy is in combat and wins he may call an instant heroic fight.
Inspiring Voice: If a Master Smithy wins a fight, he counts as a banner.

that looks heaps fun to use, for master archer id jack up his fight value a bit to 3 even if he is old hed be better than a goblin especially if he is training rangers. id give him 2 wounds an 1 attack make him rather than a warrior a sort of character which acts sort of like a stand-fast when u need one and for the special rules for your men rather than a fighting warrior. the inspiring reputation is good sort of like a banner for archers id also say instead of al rolls each warrior/ hero may roll one dice each.

for the smithy id go S4 rather than 5 to keep it more in line i mean not even gimli is that strong. id dump lead by example seems a little to extreme for a minor hero. id make that inspiring voice a one of thing rather than every turn. to keep in line with his dwarfness give him a two handed axe with the no minus penalty to give the whole strength 5 thing other than that looks fun to use.

Interesting, but very rough and a little overpowered.

35 points for a three wound three fate model that hits on a two and allows archers to re-roll hits, and also has a courage of 5, throwing daggers and a S3 bow. Because that couldn't possibly be utilized to make the Grey Company even more ridiculous. Yes, his stats are low, but he's going to live for a long time due to the wounds and fate. He may be old, but he is a man, and he seems to be tough and experienced. I wouldn't leave his base stats at 2- I'd knock them up to three. You need a different special rule, too. That one is a bit over the top. If you keep it, you need to increase his points.

As for the Smithy... He's ten points more than Faramir in armor, and while having one less fate and fight, has one more strength, two defense, and the special rules.

Instant heroic fights? That's an Elendil rule, and look at his points. The banner thing is interesting, but I can't really help but wonder what a Smith is doing on a battlefield.

I thought the smith should have S5 and D8 to show the strength needed to pound all the metal into mail and swords for most of his life, I also thought that the heavy armour could be some family hierloom. I agree with bumping up the Rangers fight to 3 and maybe changing the special rule.

Just letting you know that smithy's are strong but if your having to hit the metal hard it should be heated up again.

The master archer should only let other bowmen re-roll 1's. Re-rolling all failed hits would be rather- err overpowered.

Especially with Gondor rangers.

Nice ideas but the profilesa re both overpowered especially the Master Archer, just put his fight up a bit, lose wound and an attck and you should be fine. Change the special rule to something less overpowered and then you can work out the points cost better.

Very useful website here for creating your own units and working out the cost.

In my humble opinion, Legolas shouldn't be an especially great archer. In the films his shooting is ridiculously fake and in the books Tolkien doesn't seem to give him any amazing archery skills.

No, maybe not. But having awesome shooting skills is what makes him awesome. If he wasn't awesome, he wouldn't be in the fellowship.

They only needed Frodo but Sam was like a unseperable companion plus Gandalv convinced Elrond to take with them Merry and Pippin
