I think that the best way to use dwarf rangers with throwing axes is to put them on the flank behind your warriors with shields or khazard guard. Then if you find yourself against a shield wall you can flank it and throw those juicy 3+ hits into the low defence of the supporting spearmen.

The list was somthing like this:

Dwarf Captain (with shield throwing axe) - 75pts

8 Iron Guard - 120pts

1 Dwarf Warrior (with banner) - 38pts

24 Dwarf Rangers (8 with throwing axes, 8 with two-handed axes and throwing axes, 8 with bows and throwing axes) - 264pts

Dam! My friend has been saying they have strengh 3! Thanks for pointing that out theavenger001. :)

Sorry to annoy you and before I get corrected (again! lol) I would like to point out that I don't think that you are allowed to carry any other weapons (including throwing axes) if you are carrying a 2H weapon.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I'm pretty sure I'm right this time.

I know there's a pronoun missing

Every model has a hand weapon, unless it specifically says they're unarmed. Example: A Berzerker can decide each fight whether or not to use the 2H weapon as it does not say he's unarmed. As opposed to a Clansman of Lamedon, where it specifically states he's unarmed except for his 2H weapon.

Oh, is that what hithero meant? I thought he meant that a model can be armed with a two-handed weapon and a throwing weapon.

You can carry a throwing weapon even if you have a two handed weapon. Thus it is a good idea to arm any ranger without a bow with a two handed weapon because they are free and you never know when they could come in handy.

Dwarf Lord of Ered Luin is right, as both Gimli and Balin carry both two-handed axes and throwing axes.

Sorry to jump in on the topic, but since I'm about to paint some of these guys up, I'm also thinking ahead to using them in a game.

On a practical note, since all rangers can come with 2-H weapons free, in terms of the WYSIWYG ideas, the model rangers come in three types, bows, 2-H and guys with a smallish axe in each hand, which I assume are throwing axes.

If you were to play with them, would you make only the ones modelled with the 2-H axes to have them and/or throwing axes but the other guys only with one handed axes and/or throwing axes?

Or could you still use the ones that don't have an obvious 2-H in their hands to play as though they did? Ordinarily I guess I'd just stick one on their backs (no, not IN their backs for those orcs out there), but you can't really do that because of their cloaks.

If you did do that, then ALL rangers with two axes would have to count as having two-handed axes, otherwise it gets confusing.

There is also a Dwarf longbow, which is identical to a normal bow, so it has strength 2. The regular Dwarf warriors have the Dwarf bow, not the rangers.

Yes, to clarify; dwarf warriors carry dwarf bows (strength 3), dwarf rangers carry dwarf longbows (longer range, strength 2).
