Post subject:  Creating a Generic Ranger Captain

Hi guys,
I've always found it annoying that there's no generic captain available to any force, especially Arnor, and Blackroot Vale, for that matter.

Anyway, I think he should have expert shot, so I started with the base profile of Haldir and came up with this:

F S D A W C M W F Points Value: 60
5/3+ 4 4 2 2 5 2 2 2

Wargear: Bow, Sword

Options:
Armour 5pts
Horse 10pts
Spear 5pts
Go for the Eyes! (Blackroot Vale only) 5pts

Special Rules:
Expert Shot. A Ranger Captain can shoot his bow twice in the shoot phase, instead of once.

(If purchased only) Go for the Eyes! When shooting, a Blackroot Vale Archer Captain can re-roll failed To Wound rolls and causes D3 Wounds (rather than 1) against monsters.

So that was my proposed profile. Opinions, reccomendations and constructive criticism are welcome and encouraged :-D

Thanks,
LordElrond

A Ranger Captainb dshould not have expert shot, It is meant to be generic. Improve all stas of a regulra Ranger by one, except shoo value, add M/W/F of 2/1/1.

And then have the option to upgrade.

Shouldn't one realisticly have expert shot instead of 2 attacks, being a ranger captain and all?

Yep, if Halbarad doesn't have it, some nameless Dunedain shouldn't either :)

Should at least have D5 anyway, D4 on a hero means "no armour".

All generic Captains are that way. He should be decent in a fight too, the regular Rangers are. You spelled shot wrong.

If it was that way, you couldf argue that the same should apply to all Elf Captains especially Wood Elf ones, and Haradrim too.

Even shooty oriented heroes like Haldir and Vrasku still have 2 attacks.

EDOT: whafrog is correct.

Armour is in options, not wargear, so you can have a Dunedain esque captain or one like a RotN

Ok
I guess I agree with you about the expert shot thing

None of the elf captains do either, and realistically (if we can use that word here), they'd be more likely to have it than a ranger captain. Rules like that are for named heroes, as part of their character.

The only special rules a ranger should have is to designate one race at the start of the game, and the ranger gets re-rolls when wounding a model of that race. This represents their tracking skills etc etc

Post subject:  Re: Creating a Generic Ranger Captain

look at the profiles for Faramir, Damrod, Madril.

Expert shot is as rare as hens teeth. So I agree that an unnamed ranger capatain should not have it either.

Is this better than the old profile?
