So I haven't honestly read the part with the battle of Helms deep and the Huorns but apparently they were trees. Like small ents.

And I know they sell small tree units at GW and other companies. I was just wondering what do you guys think of this profile for them......I'd love small tree people....

Here:
F:5 S: 5 D: 6 A: 2 W: 2 C: 3

Special Rules
Terror
Walk with me-For each ent you have in your army you may take 4 Huorns. You make not take Huorns if there are no ents in your army. Otherwise Tree beard may lead a full warband as normal.
Throw Stones-Same description but each stone is strength 3 with a range of 10"

People tend to tell me my profile seem overpowered. But the profile is pretty much good as far as I'm concerned. The profiles basically based off the Half Troll with throw stones and higher courage for a few more points.

25 pts

Yeah works well. I have used the Half Troll profile (with courage boost) for Huorns previously and it fits well enough.

Not a bad profile at all, and just about fits the power level, as I see them.

I think my approach to huorns would be to treat them more along the lines of a hostile terrain piece than individual fighters, but that's just my take based on how I remember them from the books.

erm.... Woodland creature???
I think it should be around 5-7 points more, but that is my opinion

Ah ok. I just remember someone saying they helped at Helms Deep....I may be wrong.

This profile literally only has +1 courage, and throw stones from a games workshop profile and you think it should be another 5-7 points higher after the additional two? WOW.

No, you're correct. They did help out at Helm's Deep, at least towards the end of the siege. Been a while since I read the book, so details are a bit fuzzy, but they're also in the extended edition of the movie. They essentially blocked the orcs' escape route, and picked off most of the remaining Isengard army as it fled through the "forest" of huorns.

There ya go now I remember that.

They already have an official profile in a White Dwarf issue with a scenario as well and special rules. If I was home I would pull it out and tell you what it is. Issue 306 (US) and scenario Fear of the Dark.

Whoa, really?!

That's very shortly after I cancelled my subscription. Like, just 6 issues or less (I know I have issue 300 with the fiefdoms). Hmm, I may have to try and track that issue down...

Yeah, I don't have the issue in front of me, I will look after work (like midnight tonight). But you are on the right track when you say terrain piece that is hostile, I think that is almost what they did, it had special rules for engagement, IIRC. Either way, I will let you know later on and post it here.
Not that Lord of the Brown Ring's profile is not a good house rule, but may as well look at what has been done before just to compare and see which one may fit the current rule system better.

Ok. In the scenario there are 33 Huorn trees on the board spread out. There are no points given, it is Treebeard vrs 6 Uruks warriors, 6 Berserkers, 2 berserkers with torch, 1 uruk captain.

Trees are moving ;
At the start of the good move phase the good player rolls a d6 to determine how many trees move that turn. each chosen tree move d6 inches but is not slowed by terrain or obstacles.
F 1/-, S 4, D 6, A 1, W 0, C 5
Huorns have control zones so they can charge and be charged.
Should a Huorn win a combat it will not strike, instead it envelops a single model. The model is lain down beside the huorn to represent this. If multiple combats, it is players choice. 'enveloped models may do nothing until released and suffer a single S5 hit at the end of each fight phase. Huorns may only envelop one model at once.
If a huorn is charged while enveloping a model, the model is released and placed within 1". if the huorn is wounded or defeated in combat, it releases any model and instantly retreats d3" away from the source of the attack.
Might cannot affect Huorns, they are too tree like for that type of haste.

My opinions;
So they are fairly powerful, but you can only move a limited number of them per turn and at random distances. So an enemy can keep away from them pretty good most of the time. I am not sure what you would give that for a points value because of the fact that you are not using any one of them all the time, some may never get used at all if they never have enemies near by or if you don't get to move that many each turn.
It would be best to use these for specific scenario's involving Fangorn and tailor the Huorns into the scenario and play test it.

I think Lord of the Brown Ring may want to make his profile for use for a points match version of a huorn though that may get some actual use.

Yeah I always gear my profiles for points matches.

Sithious for some reason I missed or forgot that scenario. The restless tree profile from The Scouring of the Shire book is different. In Odovacar Bolger's Promenade the victims are hobbits the profiles are weaker even though Tom Bombadil is present.

I created the 27 Restless Trees from Mage Knight figures.
The Restless trees have a courage of 8 vs 5 for the Hurons.
Strength 2 is enough vs Hobbits. The hobbits have enough trouble with defence 5

Thanks for the posts, all! I agree, LordoftheBrownRing's profile is great for points matches, especially if you want a cheaper option in an ent force.

I had also forgotten about the restless trees in the Scouring of the Shire scenario, so thanks for bringing those to my attention, Oldman Willow! That looks like a fun scenario, hopefully I will get to try playing it this winter with some friends and family while visiting home.

Set ablaze page 83 of the Hobbit rule book would be a welcome addition to thier profile.

The converted trees look good but would work a little better if they are taller. Sometimes the foliage gets in the way of movement.

Yeah I can imagine that. I have a converted wraith on fell beast and he has his feet on the ground. Can get annoying but its too gorgeous not to use.

Post subject:  Re: Huorns profiles

I found my profile I made about half a year ago.

I based mine on an Ent dulling down their stats (hence the high courage) and a half troll.

F:4/4+ S:5 D:7 A:2 W:2 C:4

Throw stones: Same as Ent profile except S: 3 and range of 10"
Terror
Woodland creature

Points: 26

So mine is quite similar to yours except -1 fight, +1 defense, +1 courage. And minus the walk for me special rule.
And mine is 1 more point so point wise our profiles are spot on.

I like the walk for me special rule makes them a themed force that can't be spammed.
