Post subject:  Making Harad and Umbar more competitive

Hi everbody,

because there are a lot miniatures which went oop, I want to buy some of them before they are not available. I want to make my Harad and Umbar mmore competitive, so the question is, which miniatures should I buy and how many (I want to have a solid 400-500 Pts. army).

I do already have:

- Dalamyr (can also be used as a Bo Sun or a captain)
- Suladan ft. and mtd. (can also be used as a king or chieftain)
- Mahud king ft. and mtd.
- 24 Corsairs
- 24 Haradrim
- 6 Corsair Arbalester
- 1 Mumak

I thought about buying:

- Haradrim raiders or
- Half trolls or
- Watchers of Karna or
- Abrakhan Guard

Thank you for your help

I think the Haradrim Raiders are a must, I would say. Great light cavalary. The Mahud Raiders are not on your list, but they are pretty good, too. I don't have enough experience to chose between the Trolls, Watchers and Guard, though.

They are not on the list, because they are too expensive in my opinion.

At the moment, most people recommend the watchers of Karna. Is there anybody who wants to tell me why I should take them? I know that their profile is strong, but how should I use them? Shooting as long as possible or close combat?

You certainly need an elite force. Your current army is a good base, now you need a special force. Mahud is good because of their extra str, watchers are great because if you give them some spear support and viola 3A. Abrakhan is great for their +1 to dmg with no penalty and half trolls are good for str. Raiders are good because they are cavalry.

How many elite troops should I buy? I dont know how my army should look like. Should I use the Corsairs or not? If I use them, I dont have the 50% bow limit. That is also the bad thing about the half trolls.

I would also prefere to keep it as cheap as possible.

In my opinion if you want corsairs, at most you would need either spears (as basic soldier) or the highly requested corsair reavers.

If you get a mix of watchers with reavers + mahud´s with spear, the front line its really nasty having 3A (one of which its at S4)
Or alternative same as above but replacing mahud´s wih spear for corsairs with spear, bit more light armoured, bit less S but cheaper and a bit more courage, also pretty high fight still.

Keep in mind you could always keep the corsairs on their own warband without other warband´s bow limit interference.

Prob

2 harad warbands with 6 watchers/6 harad with spears + 2 warbands of 6 reavers/6 corsair with spears? course this is expensive point wise, youre looking something around 420pts something like that (not counting heroes) giving a total of troop cannon fodder of 48 models.

Get 2 boshun for banner effect on the corsairs and reavers (at each warband) and some cheap haradrim taskmaster and a heroe with 3 might. This should give you easily hmm 750pts with 52 models (its all footslog though) consider an horn to give +1 courage if you really want....

This is just an horde tactic where half the army has 2A (24 foot soldiers + the heroes)

ohh and give axes to corsair reavers they will look like wood elves but with 2a at S4 and a very bad mood.

Thank you for your answer. The problem is: My opponent does not have 750 pts. and because we are playing into a tabletop club, we dont have infinity time. This means that I am only able to play a 500 pts. game.
According to your tips, I created this list:

Warband 1 12/12
Suladân the Serpent Lord
6 Haradrim Warrior with Spear;
6 Watcher of Kârna with Bow;
----
Warband 2 12/12
Corsair Bo'sun
6 Haradrim Warrior with Spear;
6 Watcher of Kârna with Bow;
----
Warband 3 12/12
Mâhud Tribesmaster
6 Corsair of Umbar with Spear;
6 Corsair Reaver

Total: 497 Pts.

Where do I get hands with axes for converting Reavers?

I think that this is not true. The rules say: If your force (or any allied contigent of your force) contains only warriors of the following choices, its bow limit is 1/2 instead of 1/3:...
The army builder from Lonley Knight interpreted the rule in the same way.

Having the corsairs in their own warband makes no difference as bow limit is organised by contingent, not on a warband-by-warband basis, so put your warriors with any hero you want. However, I do understand Galanur's confusion as it is an army-specific rule that can lead to mixups with corsair-harad combinations.
e.g. I have a force of 36 mirkwood elves. I can have 12 with bow. I choose the bow for all 12. I have legolas and he is an appropiate leader for them, so I put all 12 with him. This does not break my bow limit as my contingent is 36 models and I have no more than 12 bows, therefore my army is legal. Who the bowmen is led by is irrelevant.
Badner, you have 36 models in total and 12 of them carry bows. Your army is perfectly legal and you may have the bowmen and corsairs led by whoever you want, there is no rule in the Harad and Umbar List that says they must be kept separate. As for the list itself, maybe drop two haradrim warriors with spear and upgrade the Tribesmaster to a Mahud King for that lovely F5 S5, but you wouldn't quite have enough to give him a shield unless you drop 2 bows. Then you will have three solid F5 heroes at 500 points, which can only be a good thing. You will also still have a legal number of bows.

Correct.

About reavers with axes, its either you sculpt or use other model equivalent with axes in replacement like dwarven or rohan axes... or mordor

Half trolls are so so dominant if you use them well. I use them frequently.

I voted that because I knew the vote would be overwhelming for watchers.
