the new LOTR rule book you know the blue one...
well if you look at gandalf the grey....
6+1will
spells:
blah blah blah....
strengthen will: restore all lost will

then look at elrond
his specialty is restore or renew health or some thing like that
basically that means you expend will to restore wounds!
brill combo as this means elrond never dies...
if you are playing against a person who has never seen this combo in action they will think: Hmmm why has he chosen gandalf the grey instead of the white and elrond not gil-galad???
and so on
for a 500pt match use a few elven archers
gandalf and elrond
and fill the gaps with minas tirith shields and spears but no minas bows that is what the elves are for
like it???
I do hope it helps any one as it has helped me alot!

Thats the definiton of cheeseand powergaming.

That is not themed or anything.

that is not themed well if you take out the warriors of minas tirith and put in elves that would be better.

That is a good combo that i will try its not cheesey if you theme it.

there are alot of downsides.

ringwaiths can break staffs, trolls could take down either of the two and no spells can be cast in combat.

so??? if he gets hit by arrows use this early in the game

early in the game gandalf wont have wounds and elrond wont use up his will, this can only be used in once the armies close in on each other, and otherwise when either of them get shot.

this means that the down-sides are still there and cannot be avoided.

Totally agree. Unless it was some kind of minas tirith defense being helped by elves :o

okay... so the army was a bit off but this was just a random guess at one...

Replace the Minas Tirith with "Elven Haven" High Elves and it will be themed.

It's still powergaming, however. But, since its at least themed now, I guess I wouldn't have too much of a problem with it. I mean, I'll just send in my WK against Gandalf to "I will break him...", and a troll or two will finish Elrond in two or three turns at the most.

Welcome to the hobby! :D

Sounded like you were a little ganged up on...but there are some things to consider when building an army. :)
Gandalf (the grey) can fit into any free peoples army, so no problem adding him to your elves, and this doesn't make it powergaming.

Where the term "powergaming" comes from is when you cherry pick units from different races and assemble them into one army (e.g. elves and Gondor), it is best to stick with one race or theme (Pelennor Fields would be a theme if you wanted Rohan and Gondor in one army).

Hope these tips help a bit and again welcome to the hobby!! :D

Good advice Bilbo.

I personally prefer race/time themed armies with only additional "special" characters if they actually appeared with each other in the films or books. Forgive me if this is already covered in the new rules book as I don't have that tome yet :( .

Welcome fallendragon.

It would be kind of wasteful in my opinion if it was only 500 points the enemey would flood like nothing ever and almost definetly the opponents would get major victory regardless of the objectives but its fun to do things like that like putting radagast in an army with tons of archers so you can volley
