i have used the following: :)

polystyrene for the base
some left over hirst arts blocks (plaster) - got them from my fellow terrain maker Drumstick 8)
the roof is made from a random cloth i found. i cut it into small bits and soaked them in watered down pva and put the bits together again
and of course balsa wood for the random support parts and wood around the hut
