I thought that at first, but I quite like the heavy highlights... Maybe when the real model is released, I'll be more subtle

besides, the flash of the camera makes it seem a lot worse than real life!

Only one more day of it, though. Heading up to see my girlfriend the second half of the week, so no minis for me then!

Unfortunately, your Azog looks too small to have fathered Bolg. His wife must have been one big Orc-maid.

You say that, but my father and brother and all of my uncles are six foot plus, whilst I barely hit five and a half- and my brother well outsizes my dad in all dimensions

The bigger question is, how do orcs have kids?...

There are female Orcs you know...

When a mummy orc and a daddy orc love each other very much, the take a warg-ride in the moonlight, sneak into a little cave, and 'wrestle' for sevral long moments.

Orc women were never confirmed or denied. I personally think that orcs just spawned like they did in the movies.

Agree to disagree, I think Azog being the father of Bolg suggests that they do have Orc-women.

Orcs were elves once... And there are elf women... So that sorts that one out!... No, wait- I distinctly remember having a Lurtz action figure when I was like 11 who was noticeably absent in the leather skirt department... Maybe Uruks are different?

Well Uruk-hai only 1st appeared battle-wise in the 1st Third Age assult on Osgiliath (the one Boromir one) so they are a little different kettle of fish.

In the books I am writing there are female Orcs definately. They display sexual dimorphism in size.

Just because there were elf women doesn't mean that orcs breed like humans. I always hear people say that Morgoth couldn't create new life, and that's true. However, Tolkien described Middle-Earth as Morgoth's Ring (or his son, I forget which) so it's perfectly reasonable to assume that once he got his "blueprint", so to speak, for orcs from the original elves he captured, that he would be able to pretty much spawn them in the earth, at least around locations with a great evil to help the process. That would explain why the orcs multiplied so rapidly in Mirkwood, Mordor and the Misty Mountains, the first 2 were Sauron's dwellings and the latter was inhabited by a Balrog.

As to Azog being Bolg's father, I always interpretted that as Tolkein not really knowing what he was talking about/where he was going in the Hobbit. It could also merely show how Bolg inherited control of the orcs from Azog, with Bolg seeing himself as Azog's successor/heir/son.

I was being ever so slightly sarcastic about the action figure...

besides, Tolkien never really decided on where orcs came from. Heck, he never really decided how to spell the damned things. In some fictions there are clearly females (Elder Scrolls, for example) whilst in others there doesn't seem to be (Warhammer, for one). Up to each author, I guess.

But Tolkien did say in a letter that there were female orcs, and did repopulate independently of an overarching evil.

Well.. if i may throw my thoughts into this discussion: the "spawning" was something PJ introduced in the films to make the sudden creation of a 20k Uruk army understandable. Such kind of breeding was never explicitely mentioned in the books. For orcs living in tribe like communities it's only reasonable to assume that they have women too.. maybe it's like with the dwarves.. for persons who dont know, they just resemble the males, or they are hidden away.. maybe orcs have matriarchies? Who knows..
as river zora says: they were elves and men once, corrupted by melkor's tortures. That way it would be only reasonable if they would breed sexually too.
I think the word "maggots" is used for young/small orcs quite often though, so maybe they live in the dirt, grow there until they are orcish enough to loot villages and slay menses and elvsies and dirty dwarf-scum. That way we could close the circle back to pj at least too

He mentioned it in a letter. I'm pretty sure he also wrote in a letter that the vast majority of Silmarillion would need to be rewritten because it was impossible. He was trying to get away from the "magicness" of Middle-Earth by making it more scientifically possible. Fortunately for his mythologies, he died before he could do it. So later on, he most likely would have written female orcs into the story, but he also would have written out the creation of the Sun and the Moon and most of Valinor would have been unrecognizable from what we know and love. As for the orc tribes, they could quite easily have "spawning pits" hidden across Middle-Earth.

well.. then answer me.. why do orcs (and even trolls!) have nipples, if not as indicator of sexaul breeding? (i know, nobody wants to imagine orc sex, but we should accept that there could be such a thing)

Then answer me why men have i nipples? Why would Morgoth bother changing the look of his soldiers? They have nipples because elven males have nipples. This discussion has just gotten weird.

men have nipples because female mammals do breastfeeding. and mmales and females develop equally for quite a long while before they are born. thats why men have nipples.. they have no function, but they are there..

Besides, modern model and filmmakers gave such body details to Orcs and Trolls. I don't recall specifically reading about these features in any of Tolkien's stories.

Right, last update for a few days- here's one picture (sory, still no battery for more!) of the Trolls (only Tom based), six unbased Fell Wargs, and a now-based Bolg, but you can't really see the base in the pic... oh well!
