I'm the opposite. I really like the eyes. They really pop.

My proof pic.

It's a bit hazy but it's a King of the Dead.

Ok... so after 2 hours the poor old King of the Dead has undergone quite a beating...

After about an hour...

... about an hour and a half...

... and two hours...

This isn't an original idea of mine but I thought it looked pretty good so I thought I'd give it a go, and with the awesome minis already posted I knew I'd need to do something special with him, though I must say taking a saw to a mini you just paid 20 bucks for is a bit daunting! :o

Stay posted,
Pinky

P.S. Remember to check spelling...

Aha Pinky! I recognize that conversion from White Dwarf 299. Great stuff, and very brave of you to hack up a brand new mini.

Yeah, I saw it in an article on the GW website. Interesting idea. It is pretty crazy hacking up a brand new mini but hopefully the end result will be worth it! All I have to do is sculpt some robe extensions onto the King then I can get on to painting them, the only problem is that green stuff is not my friend plus I have no sculpting experience at all so hopefully it doesn't go pearshaped on me! :o

Great start Andrew! I look forward to seeing you paint him up. :)

Ooh, very adventurous of you to hack him up, hopefully you can get the green stuff to work for you and finish off this great conversion with a equally great paint job. :)

Post subject:  My Tom is finally here!

Okay, I'm already feeling vastly unprepared for this, seeing what all everyone else in undertaking this month, but here is my proof... Tom is on his way!!!

Sacrebleu!!! I take my hat off to all you sculptors!!! Why is it that you can gently massage green stuff for ages without it doing what you want but you brush you finger against it for a fraction of a second and you're left with a perfect fingerprint!
If I ever mention that I am going to sculpt anything in the future talk me out of it!

Not sure if I really want to post a picture because he looks pretty dodgy  but here goes:

Hopefully I can disguise the bodgy sculpting with the paintjob!!

Well that's not bad. You could have perhaps pushed the knife upwards from the bottom of the skirt to create a ragged edge. You still could in fact cut tiny slivers vertically up from the hem. It's better than my first go at a cut and shut conversion. Take a look at this old photo. I had to sculpt the top of a cloak and a helm for my Anarion back in 2003. A very lumpy and unsmooth finish! Go ahead and laugh!

So it just goes to show what a liitle bit of practice can do. I'm fairly good at sculpting now (but by no means an expert) because I know the correct tools to use, understand the properties of the putty and how it behaves. You just don't have that knowledge to begin with. It comes with experience.

It looks like its definitey a good start Andrew. I've not really worked with sculpting much (The flame on my orc :o ) but from what I have done, I know its difficult. I think you've made a good start. I'm sure it'll be even better once you paint him too! 8)

And Dave, that Anarion looks preatty darn good to me! You're being modest as well, your Ents are simply fantastic miniatures and you are an amazingly talented sculptor. :)

Thanks guys, the comments are appreciated 8)
I think I'm going to need a LOT more practice if I want to do any more sculpting! I'm one of those crazy people that when I do something if it isn't perfect straight away I get over it pretty fast! I have a very short attention span! Though this is the longest lasting hobby of mine so far, it's just so awesome! I'm still not up to painting plastic minis yet as my metal ones have on average 3 - 4 acetone baths before I'm happy enough to show the world!

P.S. Happy B'day to you both, Josh for today, Dave for last week.

Natarn, one of the OR members, sculpted it himself. If you want one you can PM him for details on how to get it.
It is a fantastic sculpt isn't it!

Hi all, a big update today.
First of all, I did a mini, but wasn't happy on the result. I think the armor didn't turn out well.
