Very well done. The Huntsman looks superb! The Black Dragon could use another highlight for the black in my opinion.
Job well done, though! 8)

Thanks for all the comments, the Huntsman is proving to be a really fun project.

It's a tough one when doing black, obviously the highlights aren't ever as clear on a small camera image, but also it's so easy to make it too light and then the cloth becomes grey. I'm also not a fan of the crisp highlights with the white-ish edges. I will try and lighten it up a bit - maybe on the sash on the belt and see what it looks like.

Hey folks
Some progress made, but life has been pretty hectic.

I've all but finished a group of Black Dragons:
Image
Following advice from you guys I've added another couple of layers of highlights on the black (although I'm not sure if you can see it that well.

And also a Dragon Knight and Warpriest are nearly done:

The King's Huntsman is finished, just needs basing and Glorfindel is plodding along:

I've also splashed out on my first finecast (not impressed I have to confess). I bought the Great Beast, Amdur and the Gondor Command. Each one had to go back due to casting problems, but GW were very good about swapping them. As Hithero as mentioned previously the Beast is very warped and I spent an evening wrestling with it in hot water to bend it to my will. Even then the joins aren't that great and will need some greenstuff work, but then a metal model would have been the same:

The black paint inside the mouth makes the mouth look a lot more lopsided than it really is. I just wanted the get the inside painted while it was easy.

I don't see why people bother to mention problems with the Great Beast anymore though, as everyone knows the entire batch is faulty, and GW have no intention of changing that.

Can't believe it's nearly 3 months since I last posted. I've been painting, but not getting round to taking pictures.

Anyway, the Great Beast is moving on slowly, the actual beast and the howdah are completed and I have started on the crew. Here is the beast so far:

I've also finished Erkenbrand and some of his Riders of the Westfold (red shields like Erkenbrand). Sorry for the double picture, I can't decide whether the photos look better with flash or without. Some bits of the models are better with the flash on, but the flash makes his shield look terrible!

I'll try and get the crew WIPs up tomorrow morning.

Thanks guys, appreciate the comments.
As promised the crew as they stand at the moment. One of them has sneaked into both photos!

Also, some recently finished rocky outcrops. 4 of them are just slate stuck to bases, and the 5th is some bits of bark I found in the garden. Everyone loves free terrain!

I like the Rocky Outcrops there. I think when I make a trip to England I'll get the beast there and fixed up. it looks really nice! I can't really comment on the orcs because of the background kinda interferes a bit.

Thanks guys - I'll try and post some clearer pictures next time I get round to painting.

@GothmogtheWerewolf - good spot about the plastic orcs. I love the sculpts so much for the archers from the beast that I am toying with swapping two for plastic archers just to have some variety in my infantry. I've got thirty something orc archers and a lot look quite similar! I'll paint them all up together and then make a decision.

Good idea, it is annoying if you have that many Orcs and there are only 2 marginally different sculpts, I myself have 2 sets of Crew for my Great Beast due to problems wth the casting, plus my 2 remain metal ones, so it isn't as much as a problem for me, but it is for most people, (it used to be for me until recently). I think I once saw in a GW mag, a 9 company formation of Orc Archers (72 Orcs) all with just those 2 sculpts, very unrealistic for Orcs.

Good luck 8)

I really like your orcs. Very well painted. 8)

If you're willing to do some conversions, this guy on The Last Alliance site (Sithious) has done some amazing conversions on his orcs. I think he said that not one of them looks like the other.
Here's a link to his orcs, if you're interested. :-D

Mordor Orc Rabble

It's somewhere in the middle of the page. Don't know how to link it to where it pops up starting there.
Hope you like them. I've started my own orc converting spree because of this guy. :-D

Post subject:  Re: Fishlegs' WIP - Updated 21/6 Great Beast completed

Well, I've finally finished the Great Beast. I'm really pleased with the final thing, and painting it was good fun. I'm looking forward to trying it out on the table now! I decided in the end to pin all of the orcs so they can be removed as casualties.

The howdah sure is crowded!

In the end I only put one plastic orc on the beast, but I do have one new pose in the ranks of archers (although I have just got 6 more metal archers off ebay)
Image

And now the Beast is done, it's time for the next task - I bring you "Project Gondor!"
Image
Last summer I went a bid mad on ebay and bought over 100 Gondor models. Many are elites, but I'm starting on the basic Warriors of Minas Tirith, plus a few siege crew, captains and Faramir (54 in total). To save time I sprayed them with the Army Painter platemail spray which seems great on the few test pieces I've done. I've also base coated all the faces. I hope I can get these done before I bore myself too much!

Some of you may also recall I asked in another thread for pictures of the Balrog's lower jaw as my Balrog is pieced together from several models in various auctions. I've started sculpting the jaw, although it's all very rough at the moment.

Very nice painting. 8) The orcs still look like a rabble of orcs but a unified rabble. Good job!
Do you still need pictures of the jaw or anything else?
