Nicely done. Agree with everyone else that the beehives add a nice and distinct look.

When I use pine needles for fences I actually go a different route, I soak mine in water for awhile to make them more supple and easier to thread between the posts, letting them dry after construction. Takes longer but I usually have several projects going at once so it really doesn't matter.

Different ways to the same end.

Very good point, I was wondering about this. Doing it that way might save a bit of irritation and heartache as the dry needles have a risk of snapping or jumping out of the fence.

Hello, all.

Been a bit quiet on this site lately, but that doesn't mean I haven't been working.

Here is an orc totem pole, complete with trophies and gore

A Bree-land house, but it's generic enough to be used for almost any setting. This was the first scratch-built building I've made in about 12 years and was a good learning experience.

Another goblin man, converted from Perry HYW body, WOTR knight arms, and an orc hunter head.

And more Easterlings, slightly converted Gripping Beast Jomsvikings. They will be one of several tribes from the East.

Happy New Year to all!

Nice Easterlings looking forward too the other tribes.

Great work! I really like the Bree house and the Goblin-Man conversion. Very fitting indeed.
The Jomvikings also work great as Easterlings. Funnily, I've also played with the idea of using those minis for alternative Easterlings.
Keep up the good work! :yay:

I like that little house. It reminds me of the farm buildings in Battle for Middle Earth II.

Thanks, Fëanor. The Jomsvikings are suitably fierce and exotic-looking, though I plan to add some of the regular Easterlings as well at one point.

Thanks. I remember having a lot of fun with that game way back when.

Hello, all. I've been hard at work in Middle-earth but haven't been able to photograph much due to the weather. Was able to take a few pics today during the thaw of my latest project.

These are Men of Dale and Lake-town
Image

They are made from Wargames Foundry Normans with a few GS alterations. I really enjoy painting the shields, which show either Vanquished Smaug or some dragon motifs.

Many people (and the movies) seem to give the Dale-men a somewhat Eastern feel, but I always pictured them as somewhat more Feudal feel, sort of at the aesthetic and technological level of Scandinavia in the late 12th and early 13th centuries, like in the Hylestad Church carvings. Tolkien doesn't give much to go on, but in "The Clouds Burst," he writes, "and beside them came the men of the Lake with long swords." That always stuck in my mind, so I made a few Lake-men of higher status with greatswords, housecarls perhaps to the line of Bard.

Hope you like them. If the weather keeps up I will photograph more tomorrow.

Nicely done, like how you make them your own by how you read the books.
