I need to finish sanding the Moria blocks. It is too cold to cast. I like to do it out side because of the mess. I want to start planing Lake Town but I will have to clear up and finish some odds and ends before I start work on it.

Lucky on E bay with painted card players and Strider The OOP GW card table was a good snag too. It is A D&D mimic

The floor was made from craft sticks. They were stained with MinWax and textured with a new wood burning tip. The hobbit door was made from a 40 mm wooden base and a round craft product. I am experimenting with some ideas for Lake Town. Lake Town is going to need a large Inn.

That is a truly wonderful piece and the floor is fantastic, one of the most original floors I have ever seen.
To be honest I don't think this affect works for the hobbit door, a bit ironic maybe but it just doesn't sit right with me.

I dry brushed the door green to show the texture better. It will need more contrast to show that the wood grain in the frame runs a different direction.

The 20 mm circle was used for the clay mold. 25 mm for the small Mithril Frodo. I think 30 mm doors with 40 mm frames work better for current GW Hobbits.

I also wanted to point out the difference staining the wood craft sticks makes. The stained craft sticks were in the bits box. I think they were stained with Golden Oak. I need to see what staining the wood after texturing looks like.



Very old Hobbit Houses from before I started using Hirst Arts. The stone is plastic card. The crops are plastic plants.

I will use the ends of the craft sticks to make some gates for some stone walls I need to make. The hedge in the photo was made from generic brand AC/heater air filter. I cast some Hirst Arts half doors as replacement gates years after the photo was made. The photo illustrates how to use the craft stick gates better than I can explain it.

Haha, some of the doors and windows remid me of eyes.

That door looks a lot better for the green wash being applied.

What amazes me is that you are constantly building something or working out how to approach the next project, and at the same time finding fascinating tools and materials to use. Or do you have an army of secret assistants out scouting for you?

BTW - I can see the grain on the hobbit door frame on my monitor already.

Several years ago I made some Helms Deep sections that matched the GW Helms Deep sections so that I could play the scenarios. I am going to start planing a new model. The custom parts will take a while so I am going to experiment with that.
Lake Town
I have an idea for some wooden buildings. I am going to acquire the supplies for new docks for the Pirate game I am Planing for Cool Mini or not Expo next week.
It would be nice if I had some more help.

I followed a plan from one of the Two Towers articles or scenarios.
I built the core from scrap stair step. I determined the measurements from the GW model so I could match it.




I used the Hirst Art #200 wall builder mold and the #63 octagon tower mold and the #202 floor mold for the walls. The stairs were made with #60 the prison tower mold and #51 the Dragon Inn. # 53 the bridge mold also has stair parts.It also has some the parts I used for the seeing seat. I had to use the thin floor part as the top row of the wall to match the GW model. The difference is due to metric vs US measurements.Don't try to convert use on or the other.



Minor sanding and fitting was necessary for a good match.



I did not finish the tower. I decided to wait until I had time to build the the whole model.

Oh so you use a wood frame and stick the blocks around them. That makes sense. Was wondering whether they were free-standing blocks.

The stairs were free standing blocks. You can build walls with free standing blocks it just takes more casting and more time.
Foam core and Styrofoam can be used as core as well.

I am using the pink foam as a spacer. I will cut a core from wood.I will have to sand some of the parts for a better fit.



I decided that the small structure is a tomb. I added a door. I also decided to rebuild it with an interior. I will replace some of the plain blocks with more decorative blocks and make a removable roof. The arch on the right is begging for an interior too.
