Yes the Creek Bed rocks look really good, nice to see the are doing a mold as well.
Watched the mixing video, wow was my mix to liquid, live and learn and know for my next mix.
Will check tomorrow on my Molds and let you know how it's going, also experimenting with powder pigments and oil washes on my Weather Top rock, looking good but a bit more work needed until I post any pictures.

It would have looked better to have two wide steps but I did dot leave room because I did not plan for it. I wil add a floor instead.



I think a two inch arch will look better than the 1 and 1/2 inch or the three inch arch at the top of the stairs. I will have to make a Gothic style arch.

I have brought the molds into the house to dry them out, the Hydrocal is still soft.
If its not cured tomorrow i will start again.

Pour it out it will be too soft. Wash the mold in a bucket don't let the waste down your drain. It will settle in the drain and clog it. Let the lumpy ruin dry out on some news paper. If it drys out in a interesting shape you may be able to use it.
You should be able to demold most cast in side a hour.

Well thats a nice messy job to look forward to! just cleaned out the airbrush that was in a pretty disgusting mess. A got G1232 small rocks and G1233 rocks.
Once i can get it right i plan to get the 5 Hirst molds you listed, then i want to make ruins for Arnor and Angmar, 2 of my favorite areas. I have ideas for Fornost ruins.
Also Bree, would love to make The Prancing Pony. There is a brilliant plan of it in "The Atlas of Tolkiens Middle-Earth" by Karen Wynn Fonstad, she also did a good Dragonlance World Atlas as well

I am going to make two more molds this week end. I need some more custom sizes for Helms Deep,the Seeing Seat and Moria details.

I am going to start putting together the large columns for the Moria Halls.

Tell me what you think of the rope and Roman style columns. They are not for Moria.

A very snazzy Weathertop piece - and I really like the sandstone colours (as a former geology student and frequent mountain climber, I am intimately aware that most rocks are not in fact grey).

Mostly gray here!
The limestone north of here is very gray almost blue gray- lots of coal. West of Texas the sandstone is red. South of the Piedmont the limestone is very nearly white.They used to mine pink and white marble and barite in north GA . Most of the dolomite is dark gray with white and pink crystals in thin veins.

It only looks grey (gray) from a distance - look at it up close and you see there is much, much more to it

I spend a lot of time in Donegal where most of the rock is granite or other plutonic quartz-heavy variations overlaid with peat bogs and glacial deposits. The mountains, hills and beaches are old, old friends for me - maybe that is why I have always liked the Dunedain Rangers, being a bit of a wanderer myself.

As for the panoramic view from the top of Errigal - I have walked and climbed everything you can see from that point many, many times in all weathers. Some of the colour in the rocks comes not from the minerals but from lichen growing on it - lichens can be extraordinary colours - sunset oranges, bright yellows, rich rust reds. Nature has a palette we can only admire.
And if the weather was not so miserable, and the cloud so low, I would be able to see Grianan Ailigh from where I am sitting.

It actually quarries near white. The gray was a reference to the Confederate Memorial.

Will start to take photos of Weather Top tomorrow in sun light as its dark here now and my camera is bad in artificial light.

The Columns look great, very Middle Earth, i am sure they would fit in anywhere.

Great Success today with the molds, i have worked out the Hydrocal mix, like the guy in video say, get it like Mayonnaise! just got the rocks and boulders out of the molds and they look brilliant, well pleased. Thanks for your advise.
Will take some pics in day light tomorrow of them as well.

I can see this casting business is a bit addictive!

Hidden passage from crypt.

I have several ideas for using this model in a role playing game.I do not want to change the outward appearance. I think it will be fun to add some unexpected details.

The walls are 1/8" MDF and are hot glued in place. I will use 1/2' plywood for the core so that I can use wood screws.

Your life must be an endless mix of casting and laying out. I must say it is worth it as each project is an inspiration.

I do a little more than that
Some times I wish I could work on it for four or five hours at one time so I could make some real progress. The casting and gluing involves a lot of drying time. It is great for me. I can be creative and still have time for all of the things we all have to do.

I am not sure I would have patience to keep making bricks to put together, I would want hundreds at a time made so I could just keep building.
