Great work here shame the pictures on the earlier posts don't work.

What's the difference to layering vs edge highlighting?

Can't say I enjoy the Royal Guard as much as the Hunter Orcs but still a good standard of painting.

You can find a lot of tutorials, vids on the layering technique. Here's an image that quickly gives you an idea:

Concerning the pictures, I'm converting my blog to my Google+ page. My Google+ page is going to contain all my miniatures images:

They look great - a brighter palette than the movie version but perfectly elvish none the less. I feel a Backlog increase coming on... :(

I agree on the colours, unusual yet fitting. The painting is very good and overall these are a pleasure to view.

Thanks I'm learning to choose the right colors not using a painting guide. I had the intention to make the models less brighter but I'm personally happy with the paintjob.

These look great! The colour foliage on the base ties in nicely with the model. Great work Werner.

Thanks, any tips/suggestions to improve my painting?

To be quite honest Werner theres not much I can pick out where you could look to improve. Yours is one of those threads where every time you post a picture the painting gets better each time.

Your armour work and work on the cloak is great already. Maybe an area to work on might be the face a little more. Try a further highlight of elf flesh mixed with a little dwarf flesh and just highlight cheekbones , forhead, bridge of nose and chin followed by a highlight of pure elf flesh in the same places but leaving a little of the previous highlight showing. It will give the face a little more definition.
Keep doing what your doing Werner.

This is a great looking force! Nice to see the Palace Guard getting some love! Really nicely painted figures with a great colour scheme. I can see what you mean about Thranduil, his eyes look very dark, it's a problem I've been having recently, trying to strike the right balance between shading and guy-liner! I love his cloak though, really nice, subtle colouring, I'll definitely come back to this when the time comes to paint mine!
