Really great work so far everyone! :yay:

My Ent arrived today! :D

Since it got here I've been eagerly assembling and slightly converting him until I achieved a suitable pose. My Ent has one foot placed up on a rock, and has his arm raised as if he's preparing to throw a stone. The posing is a little akward, he's leaning slightly and the arm being raised is very stiff. However, this is intentional. The Ents move very robotically in the movie and I saught to capture that. I'm working on his base tonight as well, so far so good there too.

Sadly, he arived around dusk and I've been working on him since then, so no pictures as of now. I'll be sure to add some tomorrow, by which time he should be primed and his base should be finished.

Can't wait to share my progress!

Thanks for the comments guys! :)

I put the finishing touches on his base this morning and he is also primed now. I would have taken pictures of him without the base done and before he was primed last night, but it was too dark. I was so excited that I began work on him not long after I woke up too. Hope that's not a problem at all. :)

Anyways, here he is!

And lastly a close up on the base...

Comments and critiscms welcome guys! :)

Edit:

I decided to add a few things to the base. I added some fallen leaves and a little more static grass of a different type. I then added a lighter colored flock to the shrubs to give them a little more depth and realism. All super easy to do, but I think the results are great. I was really trying to get the look of the forest floor, and I think I did that preatty well. This may be my best base ever! :)

How's the base look? :)

I agree, it's your best base so far. Definitely looks like a forest floor, good job on capturing that effect 8)

Thanks for the comments guys! :)

I've added even more to the base now. I placd some flock on the log (Which was a left-over part from the Ent kit actually) to look like moss growing on it. I also added some more flock onto the shrubs to give them a slightly more varied appearence. I've only basecoated him with brown at this point, I'm hoping to get to work on painting him in earnest tomorrow.

Thanks again for the compliments everyone! 8)

Wow, some really nice work there. I like the base on LBL's one, and the scatchbuilt ents are looking a treat!

Hello again all!

This will probably be my last update untill I finish the bark, as I don't want to clutter the thread with my WIP pictures. However, I thought I'd post these to show you my scheme for the bark. As some of you know, I've decided to paint the bark using a similar technique to painting wood grain. I think it's turning out well, but I'll let you guys be the judges!

As painting all of the bark at once would be a little overwhelming, I decided to split the painting of it into sections. I'll be working my way up from the ground to the top stage by stage. So far I've completed the lower halves of the two legs. I really wanted to paint this model in a unique way, and I think I'm acomplishing that well so far. I also did just a little more work on the base, as I mentioned in my last post, so here's two more pictures of the base...

I'm thinking of possibly adding another tuft of long grass, but I'm not sure. Any thoughts on that? And as always, comments and critiscms welcome on the mini. :)

Looks ace so far, though I'd personally take the legs a wee bit brighter. Might just be the picture, but right now it doesn't have quite enough contrast for my taste.

I vote keep the base as is. 8)

Thanks for all of the comments guys!

Well, I wasn't going to post any more pictures untill I was finished but I thought it was important to see what your guy's opinions of my Ent are. Part of me really likes this scheme, it certainly is unique and interesting which was what I was hoping for. However, part of me really thinks it would be easier and look better to paint him in a silver birch scheme and use drybrushing. I'm just a little unsure of what to do. Any thoughts for me guys?

Anyways, here he is...

C&C welcome and very much apreaciated at this stage.

Well mate, in my opinion, part of these challenges is to do something unique and different, what would be the fun in comparing three or four Ents that look basically the same :P . I think your idea is good, he's looking good especially the base :yay: , but I would probably make the bark on the body a bit thinner, the legs look good but the patches on the body I think are too wide and uniform. You're doing a great job so far though, I like the pose you've given him.

Andrew

I think the highlights may be a bit too extreme and as Pinky said too uniform and wide. However I really like your colour scheme and I think it'll work well given enough time, so keep at it Josh! 8)
