Some great terrain and I really like your completed berserker. As for Sarumans robe, it's one of the hardest things to paint on any model (along with Gandalf the Whites robes) so don't worry too much. I think you did a good job with it 8)

Theres nothing wrong with Sarumans cloak - Working with white is always pretty difficult but all your shading and highlights are in the right places. Face is excellent too. Berserkers lookin good also ....Keep up the good work!!!

I like the blood on the berserkers sword. The robes are just fine. The skin of saruman is rather dark.

I really like all of them! Saruman's robes look fine...like others have said, painting white robes can be a nightmare, but I think you've done a nice job getting the highlights just right. Only critique is the color of Saruman's skin...I'd add a few thin layers of Dwarf Flesh to bring his skin to a more natural tone.
Well done! 8)

thanks! :D
i know about the face but i actually sat there for about an hour trying to get the right colour and nothing! :O that was the closest to realism as i ever got :-X i tried a lot of different highlights and washes but they just ended up looking horrible so i just decided to settle with a very dark skin tone... i could just say that he went on holiday and got really badly sunburnt

Looks cool. Is that a sepia wash you've used on saruman? if so i think you could dilute it a bit more before applying, or don't use a wash at all if you want a nice smooth look :) But otherwise very nice.
I'm hungry for more terrain piccies!

I thought I had already commented on your tower must have not hit the right button. All of your terrain looks good! The figures too!

@Elros of Numenor i honestly cant remember what wash i used  but i remember trying 3 different ones. i tried it without any washes but it looked too flat... im not that bothered with it though: im not really good at painting faces and skin in general so thats as good as i'm ever gonna do 8)

If you don't want to put much effort into painting skin/faces, the easiest way that I have found to get a realistic effect with little work is to use a basecoat of Dwarf Flesh and then apply a Gryphonne Sepia wash. I use this when I am trying to paint relatively quickly and it works quite well in my opinion.

You won't regret it....The washes are a godsend.

I believe it was John Blanche himself who said that he gladly put out of mind the time before the existence of Devlan Mud!

Now that's not true. :puppy: just keep practicing and you will certainly notice improvements, just like any learned skills.
I used to hate painting flesh because i never could get it the way I wanted; but i forced myself to continue at it and try new things, i got some new brushes as well which gave me a confidence boost :D A pot of tallarn flesh doesnt hurt either if you have the do$h.
Another way to do it, like red's method is to do a couple of thin layers of elf flesh or elf flesh mixed with dwarf flesh, for a basecoat, then pick a brown colour wash, or dilute some bestial brown. Then shade the face a couple of times, which will build up the definition nicely.

ok thank you :) i will start experimenting whenever i start painting some more. i dont have that many 'men' in my armies to paint anyways :P orcs and uruk-hai are really simple to paint when it comes to their skin 8)
the next time i go shopping i will spend some time in the paint section and hopefully leave with a few new paints and mainly washes :D and i will most likely have to pick up some balsa wood because i ran out
oh! i almost forgot! i have worked on that tower but my memory card reader broke so i wasnt able to upload any more pics but my new one should be coming in soon so i will upload my progress as soon as i can :) it looks a lot better, now that is has more... things on it :-D i wont say any more and just let you guys see what i came up with  and hopefully you might see what kind of scene im trying to achieve.

P.S this is actually longer than my last essay i have done in my english class  my teacher would be so proud of me... ;)

havent done much but i'm not in a hurry so i just take it easy. i still have to add more stuff to it but it should be enough to tell what im trying to achieve here :P

in the last photo you can see a LOT of pva glue just all over the place. i havent realised that it would show THAT much so i had to scrape it all off. now it looks a bit better but at least i learned a lesson: dont pour glue all over the damn place
