The Fili conversion was because I wanted to use his quiver and bow to give a bow to Thorin. Fili's new quiver and bow were lovingly donated by a goblin :P

Very good conversions! And I second Gothmog on his request for a painting guide on the Fell Beast's wings!

TODAY I COMPLETE MY COUNCIL OF WIZARDRY. HUZZAH.

Just finishing off Saruman. Using the new Finecast model. It's a beautiful, beautiful sculpt. Oh- also, I've discovered I HATE PAINTING WHITE. I think I've done an ok job, ut it's just so awkward. Plus I wanted a cream/white for his robes and a grey/white for his beard... I'll show you the pics when I'm done and you can judge for yourself! Now I may get the FC Radagast... hm...

Great work on Saruman, I think it actually looks better than GW's paint job. Nice work on the blue wizards as well.

I agree! Nice Saruman. I'd maybe lighten up his beard and especially his hair a little more, as its very white. No other critique to add ;)
What are you going to do with his base?

Love the pose on the Fell Beast, you can just imagine it flying high over head surveying the battlefield before going in for the kill

So a Title change, and a focus change. My current challenge is SBG legal munted wizards. Got the Orthanc Saruman from GW direct, so that's easy and on its way. As for Gandalf, well, that's out of print and ridonkulously expensive and sought after... So made my own!

Used the old metal Gandalf the White, plus the MoM plastic Gandalf, and lots of greenstuff and patience! Really proud with how it's turned out though.

Next, also from GW direct is coming Yazneg and the FC Radagast. So the FC Radagast will replace the plastic one in my Council, whilst the plastic one will be greenstuff'd onto a horse! Then this will become my 'Good' army along with Thorin and co.

Also, I want Azog. And soon. So gonna be modding the f**k out of Yazneg and various orc bits to make the best damned Azog I can. I'll keep you posted!

Whoa that reposed fell beast looks terrific - how much work was involved in that? I've never seen the plastic kit in the flesh, so to speak, and I've always found the pose it's supposed to be in really dull and offputting.

Do you happen to have any WiP shots of the reposing process? The prospect of doing a similar conversion has kindled my interest in the kit.

Sorry, no WIPs of the conversion... it took some time, but only plastic cutters and emery boards for tools. I just had to cut the armoured head in half, reconnect half of the unarmoured head for the pose, then cut a wedge from the wing base and repose that. I'm hoping to do a third one soon for the Witch King- gonna have all nine eventually I hope- three on foot, three on steeds, and three on beasts- so when I do that one I will post WIPs.

However, for now and due to requests:

Start by drybrushing all the sky-facing flesh and scales with dawnstone, then another drybrush of dawnstone mixed with a little white.
Image
Then onto the wings and underbelly- drybrush Gorthor Brown everywhere you can. On the wings, leave a black 'halo' where the fingertips are.
Image
Then do the same with Balor Brown, leaving a larger 'halo' to see the Gorthor.
Image
Finally, feather on some Karak Stone on the flesh, and a very thin drubrush on the wings- leave a huge halo though.
Image
Finally, pick out the veins with karak stone/white mix, or else just pure bleached bone if you have any left.
Image
I made this one slightly lighter than the last one, just for variety's sake, and because when I do the Witch King it's gonna be really dark- wanted the three to be a little different!

Great job, I like the guide, though I have virtually none of the new colours, so I'd have to use a chart. What different did you do? from the first one? A few darker colours than these, or a black wash?

Simply left bigger 'haloes'- more of the gorthor showing, and more of the balor, only a light central dusting with the karak. The Witch King will be hardly any karak, and more 'ornate' shading.

Not yet. Getting Yazneg fo sho tomorrow. Hoping to get a berserker I ordered as well... But that's less definite as it relies on the post. It was posted first class this morning, so with luck! Otherwise, will start on Friday/the weekend. Will probably start stuffing/sawing Yazneg tomorrow though.
