Im not sure the link for the GW flicker page but someone here must know. Perhaps research on the site or white dwarf mag.

Good question, samoht! I can't really say... I suppose I wanted to try something different and try and hone my skills :)

I'm actually absolutely terrified to find out the price if they all come in one box. $90 here for 4 White Council, sooo... $150 for 13 Dwarves? If we go the direct conversion and count a Dwarf as 2/3 of a man-sized model, it will be more like $200! :o

Dread to think! :S

Thanks JW! I'll take a look around :)

Soooo I've finished all the dwarves now andddddd had a good go at the Goblin King, too:

BALIN
Image

Fairly difficult to do much with this sculpt as it's all basically one piece. I changed the positioning of the legs a tad and leaned him forward a bit to make it look like he's charging forward.

NORI
Image

I gave the starfish-head a knife in the one hand (one of the two he has strapped to his back) and sculpted him a new right arm to hold his hammer in the other.

So that's all 13 dwarves converted and ready to paint! I'll get started tomorrow :)

In the meanwhile I've been working on...

GREAT GOBLIN (EDIT: I'd like to thank RangeroftheNorth for the inspiration for this conversion)

Image

Image

Well where to start... I assembled him as normal but cut the left arm off and repositioned it to make it look like he's pointing at some insolent Dwarven scum, then used green stuff to hide the joint and define his fatty muscles. The left hand was cut off, rotated slightly and reattached, its fingers were given some extra definition with green stuff and his pointing index finger was added from scratch.

The little fellow on the GK's right shoulder is the tiny EfGT-Goblin captain, that had his limbs cut off and repositioned to make him sit comfortably/hold on to the GK's crown. The business end of his weapon was cut away and replaced to make it look like he's shaking a bone. This figure is supposed to be the GK's son, so I gave him a fatter belly to make him look more like his rotund daddy! Hey, at least it's different :P

Thanks for following this project, I'll probably do some goblin conversions and post them here, too, but for the moment I'll be painting Thorin's company!

The Great Goblin looks awesome! I'd try it myself if I had a bit of converting skill. Nice idea for the mini-Captain too.

Balin proves that sometimes less is more. Turned a decent pose into an awesome one and the effort was definitely worth it!

Brilliant Goblin King conversion. I'd thought about putting the small captain on his shoulder myself, but your model looks far better than anything I'd come up with in my own imagination. Great stuff, keep up the good work!

I like the conversions - variety makes life so much more interesting! Are you filling in the seam under the Goblin king's left arm or planning something else for that area?

I saw it as a right off because Dwalin is so static, but I'm amazed how such a simple change so vastly improved the model.

Haha you think? ;) Yes, thanks for showing me your Goblin King last week, RotN, it inspired me greatly to convert mine! :D I made a small credit for you in my earlier post, sorry for not doing so before!

I'm glad you like my Balin, Lord H, thanks for the kind words! You're right, sometimes less really is more. And I really don't know what else could be done with that sculpt anyway... Oh and come now, practice makes perfect ;P

Great minds think alike, KnightyKnight! My main inspiration for adding the titchy captain was a Nurgle Herold conversion that I saw in the Kit Bash of December's WD... maybe you did too?

Thank you, Sticky Fingersss! I just hope I can do the model justice when it comes to painting it :S

I totally agree with you Dorth, that's what lead me to even start this little project :P I'll definitely be filling in all the seams before I get started, there's still quite a bit of puttywork to be done as a few of the pieces didn't fit together very well at all... The photo I uploaded wasn't actually the one I wanted to, as I had done some more work on the King (his index finger is much longer and more of the gaps are filled) but I must have mixed the pics up. Oops!

Thanks SMORG! Do you mean Balin, though?

Thanks Dave! I was worried it might be a bit too Warhammer Fantasy but I guess it doesn't look half bad :)

Thank you all for your continued interest. I've started painting Kili and have just finished his face, will hopefully have pics for you later tonight!

Hey, I converted my Dwarfs today, inspired by yours. It's to dark to take any good pictures though.. and when I'll be home from school tomorrow it'll be dark too :(
So you might have to wait a little longer to see mine as I promised you ;)
I have to say, my Thorin seems a little.. weird.. oh well :P
Really like the new conversions aswel! Great Goblin looks great (maybe that's why he's called the great goblin? Stupid joke, I know, sorry..) and the little captain's a nice touch! Keep it up!

No need for credit or an apology, I'm flattered I had some part in inspiring someone else that's the biggest complement ever. I loooove the captain on top. I'd steal that idea, but then my warbands would be short a captain.
Reading through the notes in the Weta book, did you know the heads on his staff are of ex-wives?

Oh I love the Great Goblin, the pointing finger, and decent use of the ridiculously undersix=zed Captain I don't like. If only you had ddone this before I assembled mine, I would have done the Captain too.

Really creative. The Dwarves too.. :yay:

Why is the captain so small, even the finecast one?

Fantastic work! SMORG, the Finecast captain is normal sized... I think the little one is based on a concept design for the film.

Can't wait to see them painted, that Goblin King is great too! I have a spare one, so I'm thinking of designing my own version!
