It's all coming along pretty nicely! 8)

On the subject of "purpley reds": Scab Red is quite a thin colour and so does not always cover very well over a black basecoat - it can sometimes appear "purpley". I find by applying a basecoat of Mechrite Red before the layer of Scab Red, the red then appears more...well...red!

Just an idea, though I find it works pretty well.

(Just remember to water down Mechrite Red a bit, being a Foundation Paint it can be quite thick).

Hey everyone, my apologies for my lack of updates. I haven't been able to paint much lately.

Also, the nature of this project has changed. It will no longer revolve around the scenario, instead, I'll be painting models from the Khazad-Dum army list. And also, building acompanying terrain. Check the first post, which has been edited, for more information.

I may be able to post an update later tonight, we'll see.

Regards,

Josh

As promised, I have an update. :)

I've been working on the captain this morning, and have also begun re working some areas of the banner-bearer I wasn't pleased with (Like the cloak). Pictures of the banner will be up later.

Everything is coming along great! The cloak on this last one is much better then on the bannerbearer :)
I must say though, that looking back on the other dwarves, the metals need a tad more thinning down, and a watered-down black wash on the axeheads wouldn't hurt... but that's just me

Well, I think the improvement on the cloak is more about the captain being a better sculpt. I also re-painted the banner-bearer's cloak, and it does look a little better.

Do you mean the silver armor, or all of it?

Thanks, Billy. :)

I'm glad you liked the color, it took me a while to figure out how to paint the cloak. I decided to use the same color I use for the tunics, and am pleased with the descion. I also painted the underside of the cloaks with a dark red, almost brown, and am really pleased with that as well.

Its much better then that banner-bearer anyways... :(

They look really good so far :)
I like the trapdoors you built earlier on, the metal has a nice rusty look I think.

Edit: Im just not cut out for the OR members' relentless correcting...

As much as I'd like to claim to have built them, FoF's right, there just from MoM.

Thank you. :)

It took a little time, but the blending really wasn't too difficult. I think its about 4 layers or so.

That looks great Josh, 8)

Although I think you should change the colour of the shield, it looks a bit odd with the gold right next to it

Thanks, Billy. :)

So, you don't like the red color on the shield? What color would you suggest in its stead, the darker red I use for the under side of the cloak?

On an unrelated note, I'm thinking the title of the WIP is a little bit too long. What do you guys think? Would something like, 'Khazad-Dum WIP', be better?

I don't really know, probably a lighter or darker red would be good. 8)

Yeah, the Khazad-Dum WiP sounds cool

The Title is Fine.

I suggest that you go with some realistic wood on the shield, It'll break up the monotony of the red and the golden-reddish armour.

Thanks for the comments. :)

So, since I really like the red shield, I've decided to keep it the way it is. Also, due in part to Sean's verbose insistence, I'll keep the title as well.

Sean, how do you suggest I paint the wood? I was going to paint them in a similar way to how Bart paints his. Does that seem good?

Then I'd suggest you highlight the gold more, almost up to silver. That might look a bit better. 8)
