i have made a smurf... :o
i'm just adding bits to it as i type this... literally- im holding a bit of wood in place with one hand
i didnt quite mean to make the roof like this but i wasnt prepared and just put the cloth on top without thinking much. it turned out not bad though.

what's this: the smurfs part 2: gargamel's revenge

But seriously, if you give it a lick of paint it will look great :yay: .
So I would say keep the roof, it looks fine.
By the way, which mould did you use?

final update before painting :D
i was kinda busy with school lately so i didnt have much time to do anything. and i was waaaay too tired to even take it off the shelf :P
but today... i saw it. i looked up and saw it stare at me. straight away i knew what it meant and knew EXACTLY what to do.
i havent done much to it but just made the base look a bit more... natural. i will a few small things to it later and then go on to painting it.

here we go: these arent top notch photos but i dont want to fiddle about with it tryingg to get nice shots. just wanted to make it clear what i've done

very well done.
An you have fixed that blob of glue. 8)
One small note however, the edges of the base are still only polystyrene, I hope you'll do something about that.

looking forward the next update.

Post subject:  Re: polar's WiP

yeah, the blob was a pain to get rid of. half of the 'stone work' came off with it so i had to patch it up again here and there. its all good now :)
for the rest of the base i was just gonna leave it like this just simply because i didnt think i'd need to do anything but i just had a closer look and its really flimsy and might fall off any minute so im just gonna have to make a lot... a LOT of mess and cover the edges as well 8)

update incoming!

i undercoated the ruined tower thingy and yet the picture shows how many bits i missed. it doesnt matter that much anywhoo since all the other paints/sand/grass will cover it all up nicely.

i also had a go at making some trees... it worked out fine but, i dont like the foliage: it only comes in one colour per pack and its really hard to mix it all up so i just ended up with trees all the same colour. it kinda annoys me because i was really trying to go for that realistic look. i guess you cant just have everything :P

Good to see you're working on the ruin.

Maybe you can add some different types of flock to the foliage.
(don't know if that's possible, but it might be worth it to give it a try.)

Post subject:  Re: polar's WiP

i was thinking about mixing colours together but i dont think it would work becasue the stuff i got is pretty much like wool, so mixing isnt an easy option :(

very nice:)

Post subject:  Re: polar's WiP

i have finished the trees and managed to add some extra colours to the foliage. i actually sprayed a LOT of cheap hairspray over the leaves which hardened the stuff. then gently brushed with pva in random places and stuck some extra flock-like material (im not quite sure what it it-i threw the box out :P) which made it more three dimensional. just to make sure nothing falls off i sprayed some extra hairspray over the top.
