Thanks guys didn't expect all this positive feedback :) Glad I could provide some inspiration because thats what I get everytime I come on this site I leave with a different idea or always take away something so it's nice to contribute. Theres a few things I'd still like to touch up but just going to leave it for now, thanks for glow effect on the sword idea I think I will make that change but just not yet because I'm not confident with painting glow effects yet. Cheers all

Post subject:  Re: GD's WIP The defences have to hold

Hey guys, my helms deep fortress just arrived and it's inspired me to embark on my biggest wip and stick to it for a change  Heres some pictures of how I'd like to setup the display once I get it into a display cabinet.

I still have a few figures not in the picture... if the circles on the carpet can be made out that is where I'll be putting a ballista and a diorama. At the front gate I have a battering ram. Theres also about 12 more uruks to go in including a few crossbows. The elven force is pretty much done just missing the banner bearer. For rohan I still have a few unassembles/nib figures... Gamling, Rohan command and more rohan royal guard.

Does anyone know how to strip paint off of plastic figures, theres a few uruks in picture that I butchered 10 years ago that I'd like to repaint.

Heres a WIP for my uruk hai. Any tips for armor/skin tones are very welcome. I've gone with a 50:50 boltgun metal/ tin bitz followed up with a highlight 50:50 of that mix and chainmail followed by a wash of nuln oil (perhaps too heavy on the left one :( ) Also ignore the bases for now.

Nice painting, Nice and dark 8)

That Helms Deep surprisngly doesn't look too large a scale for the 25mm models, though I think you should have used the ladders that come with the Helm's Deep, rather than the ones from the Siege Box, because the latter are too small.

Yeah, you're right about the ladders mate. Unfortunately I got the fortress off of ebay and it didn't come with any ladders so I'll just have to use the siege box ones :( I might have to set them up a little straighter so they look taller? If thats possible without them falling.

If you are a good sculptor, maybe you could extend the ladder and sculpt some more rudds?

My scultping skills are non existant at this stage but that is a brilliant idea!! I have a few spares so I'll be sure to give it a go. Thanks! :)

*Edit.... wait a minute, with the spares i cut and glue on to the others as an extension!! I'm so stupid haha

Indeed it is, thanks :) I still need to do everything thats still undercoated black atm aswell as the base. Thinking of keeping it simple and just painting road lines on it, I've textured it atm. Need to touch up the highlight on his left boot too, amazing how things come out more in photos!
