Post subject:  aqan's wip updated 25-11-2012

welcome to my wip thread.

I'm building a part of an half demolished city and I want to do some work on it during the christmas holiday.
So, a work in progres thread seemed lke a good way to keep me motivated.
I'm also building a dwarven army and I've started with repainting some of my mini's (and repainting what i bought on marktplaats.nl)

The idea of the city is based around tharbad in the fourth age while the reunited kingdom rebuild it.
I haven't done a lot yet but more will come.
Image

as you can see a there will be a bridGe across the river.
And here's the inn.(well at least the front)
Image
I also wanted two trebuchets and this is the first one.
It will need a lot of painting before it will look good but you get the general idea.
Image

And I've finally started with painting cirdan.
I love the sculpt except for the hair as there is nearly no detail there.

I know the pics are a bit dark and blurry but it was to late for good lightning.
Next time they will be clearer.

I would especially like some sugestions on how to improve cirdan's hair

Very nice work on the city so far, I'm looking forward to seeing what kind of ruins you will cook up.

You mean bridge?

Nice work on Cirdan, especially his blue robe. However, the red cloak seems a little lacking in contrast toward the top. The bottom half is good, but the top seems to be mostly one color.....at least that's what I see, but my comp. has a bad color card. :(

Thanks for the comments. :D

No update today because school took to much time.

I'll try to make the pictures a bit larger next time but I'm not used to photoshop/photobucket.

I've an idea for some freehand painting on the cloak but I don't know if I'm up to the task, what do you think?

I like the painting, although the bases could be a little more special to compliment the good painting.

Post subject:

@ corsair You mean cirdan's base?
If so I haven't sarted on the base yet (it came with this base as it was an second handed model).

And what do you all think about some freehand on the lowest part of the cloak.

Good painting, aqan. I really like, Cirdan. I agree that a little freehand on the bottom of his cloak would make him even better. :)

Keep up the good work. 8)

Yeah, some freehand would go really nicely

ahh this looks good.. I always enjoy seeing people progress on terrain artical things.. I'm working on something similar but on a slightly large scale. I will keep an eye on this thread. Good work so far & I know it does take a bit of convincing at first to keep going.

Thank you

Thanks for the comment. :)

yes I used dwarf bronze with a wash of dilluted scab red and two highlight one dwarf bronze/shining gold and some thin lines of shining gold on the brooch.

Fantastic work, you've done a really good job on him. The base is great but you may want some some patches of bare ground and maybe raise the mini a bit so that he looks like he is walking on it in the future, though this one is already superb. I might give the face a light wash just to give it a little more depth as it lets down the beautifully painted mini. A little more shading on the broach would also do it good as it is a little too flat right now.

You might want to try using several lamps to take pictures with. I use two reading lamps and a desk lamp with mine. Better pictures would allow us to truly appreciate the great workmanship and allow us to make better suggestions.

Thanks for the comment.
I will work on the broche and will keep the base in mind for the next time.
but do you mean a light wash or a light coloured wash for the face?

I have no real update but the miniatures I ordered from Ebob have arrived today. :D  :-D
I love those sculpts and it costs a lot less than gw's.

I'll update in the weekend.
