Hello all.
This is my log of anything I am working on/finished.
Recently, I've been working on some Minas Tirith Stuff (WoMT). I have finished most of them, bar a few.

Here are some pics:

And a few close ups

This is not my best painting! I am trying to paint them quickly because playing with an unpainted army is boring. I will spend more time on elite units and heroes.

After I finish off the warriors I'll start on the knights.

Quite nice but they lack a lot of details - i.e. the black cloth, the back of the shield, the gloves and straps etc. And I would be tempted to drybrush a lighter silver on the armour as a highlight or a black wash to line the different armour sections. I doubt this would take much more time to do! :)

By the way a lot of the details seem to be obscured, is this a second layer of paint on these guys?

hmmm, now that you mention it, I think your right. I'll go over the straps, and try to improve the cloth. The armour does look better in RL though. Most of them have been re-painted, I couldn't find anything to get rid of the paint that wouldn't dissolve them, they look okay from table view anyway.

P.S. Had my first game (in years) today against my brother. 105 points. It was close, but I won luckily because the orcs ran away (low courage).

To remove paint from plastics, you can use things like Dettol and Methylated Spirits.

Or Non-Actetone nail polish remover. Cheap and easy to find. However, I've heard other things work better.

The WOMT look nice, however I think they could be improved with a wash of black/drybrush of Mithril Silver and painting the cloth straight Chaos Black, or adding highlights if you feel like a little more detail 8)

Is see you have just painted silver straight over the straps and cloth etc. If you pick these details out with individual colours then it will make a massive difference.

Thanks for the replies!

I have given the WoMT a black wash and neatened up the straps.
Instead of taking masses of pics, I figured an example of what they look like now would do.

I also got round to painting my pippin model, which is now my favourite LotR model ever. Tried my best at painting (apart from the face, where I couldn't do much, apart from small white dots for the eyes)

He might be leading my army in really small games.

You should probably add some more colour. Maybe blue clothing instead and highlight some of metal areas. For the non metal areas I would try not to use drybrushing. It took me a long time to get used to layering but after thinning out my paints and giving it a go it has turned out quite well, though it could still use a lot of improvement.
You should also base them. Add some sand to the base and paint them. A dark brown first then drybrush on two lighter shades. Add grass and your warriors should look a lot better.

Yeah I agree with Dwarf Lord of Ered Luin, try not to drybrush the cloth areas as it merges with the metal areas making the different parts hard to distinguish between. But a great improvement to just flesh and metal areas painted! 8) And Pippin looks good so far but it's hard to see him clearly in the dark pic.

As DLoEL said, but if you want to stick with the traditional black, go back over the cloth with Chaos black and neaten all that up. Then mix up a a small batch of Chaos Black/Fortress Grey. (I've made a whole bottle as as I have lots of Gondor and Mordor to paint.) Use thin layers of this to paint the top of the folds of the cloth.

Paint the belts and straps with something that stands out a bit - either Scorched Brown followed by Snakebite Leather or a quick layer of Dark Flesh or Terracotta works well.

Thanks for the constructive criticism guys! For the moment I'll leave the WoMT as they are, I will try the new ideas for the next batch of them I paint.

First off are some clearer pics of pippin with the flash on

Secondly, I've decided that I'm going to start Isenguard as a second army. This is so I can fight against my brothers rohirrim without the battle making no sense.

Here is a 200 point list that i will expand upon when i get more uruks

Uruk Captain - Shield, heavy armour
3 Uruks - Shields
4 Uruks - Pikes
1 Uruk - crossbow
4 orcs - spears
3 orcs - bows
1 Berserker

17 models.
4 bow armed models
4/16 = 0.25 = 25% bow armed models

The test uruk

A berserker i painted when I was bored

And my Uruk captain conversion with my first homemade shield

Is that rust or blood on your captain? If it's rust then great, but if its blood, i'd say it's a little overdone. nice work on the
homemade shield though.

Also the berserker's mail armour would benefit from
a wash and a drybrush.
I won't be any more critical than that, 'cos your painting will soon be better with more practice

Cheers

Pippin's cape is very good and so is the White Hand symbol on the Uruk's shield, keep up the good work! :)

The captain isn't yet painted, well he is, but I'm going to repaint him after his turn in a bath of dettol.

I've painted 2 orcs with spears, they look decent and the metal parts have a lot more depth in real life, my cameras flash seems to of blinded it a bit. Other orcs will have different skin tones as well.

I'll try to get my completed stuff varnished after giving the berserker a wash on his chainmail (as suggested).

Hello all!

I've got another uruk done, IMO he's better than the first. Though I'm not too happy with my camera, it just seems to miss out any detail I've attempted. Still, I hope these pics are better.

And heres a group shot of my painted-ness so far

You have done a great job on this one. The scratched shield is great.
You may want use a file or some sand paper to smoothen the shield on the captain but otherwise it looks great.

Thanks!

I've made 2 captains. An orc captain (skully) and another uruk captain (who will take over from the previous one. The ugluk one will be used when I need another captain)
