With the Christmas period I haven't been able to do too much but I finally got my first fine cast finished.
There were three riders but I felt that was too much so I only applied the one. This is my first attempt with pigments. I used soft artist pastels, scraped them with a craft knife and put them to use. I found that the pigments didn't adhere very well so I added some Matt Medium which gave what I was after.Image

Thanks Paul.
The base is made up from milliput and pieces of slate. I had the tree trunk spare after cutting it from Frodo for Bag End.
I also had my first go at creating some saliva, thanks to Kev Image

Very nicely painted, great eyes. How did you do the saliva?

I used UHU glue. Place a bit on a palette and use a cocktail stick to attach it to the teeth. It's real that easy and what you see is my first attempts at it and both worked !

The painting is up to your usual high standard. :yay: The base looks very good too. The saliva is a nice addition. 8)

Fantastic work! Really nice composition, and the base is super. Did you have to re-scupt the fur after removing the riders? I've not handled the model.

He didn't, only the swordsman comes sculpted onto the Warg, the two archers do not come attached.

Also, the Marauder looks weird without its extra riders though the saliva and base make up for it.

:yay:

Thanks to you all.
Your right Gothmog the front one was part attached and the other two riders were separate. To me, if I had done all three it would have looked too much like a kids outing on a favourite pet. The sword blade broke off and I had to pinch another blade from my bits box.

Wooow! This is probably the most exciting-looking warg model I've personally seen. The paint quality is high and those touches like a superb base, saliva, and realistic eye really make this thing so lively. Congratulations.

Thanks Gilcris. I have been trying a bit harder to improve and I am pleased especially as I've hardly painted a figure in four months, my last building project tied me up for a bit.

Another outstanding piece of your's! This warg rider is a very niece piece, yet something about the grey and brown of the fur makes me wonder if it wouldn't have been better to use a single tone for the fur or at least go for a little more "transition"?
I love the base and the details on the warg's face though! :)

Thanks Rognarr
There was a reason behind the fur. My next project is Thror and I will scratch build his throne. However the point I was making is the fur on the warg will be the same as Thrors fur ie this is the warg he killed for his fur coat !
A bit far fetched but it keeps me amused.
