Nice conversions. I'm not a fan of Elfhelm but the banner bearer and Grimbold look great. In fact I like that Grimbold more than the GW version, might pinch that idea for my Gondor forces Rohan allies

Having collected Rohan for the last few years, thought it about time I posted some work that I have been doing. There are certain key characters either missing, or not upto my interpretation from the books, in the current deployment from GW so thought instead of waiting I would try and do some conversions. These are very much work in progress as the painting needs touching up and details such as hair and face reworking but at least it would give you an idea of what I am trying to do. Any suggestions etc are always helpful and often much needed! Firstly ... Royal Standard Bearer Converted using banner from mounted Gamling. Next is to work on a mounted Royal Guard horn blower. Attachment: P8090005A.JPG Elfhelm If you collect or game Rohan then this guy is pretty much needed. I would be very surprised if he is ever released by GW so decided to convert using Erkenbrands body, Gamling's arms and the Rohan commanders head. Alot of paint work needed on the face and hair on this one still. Attachment: P2190002.JPG Grimbold Whilst its good that GW did release him, I was looking forward to something more like a captain rather than someone going out to chop some wood for the fire. I decided to add a sword and shield to him. The difficult bit will now be trying to do a mounted version of this. Attachment: P2190007.JPG Thats if for now. I love that Grimbold conversion, he looks much better than the woodchuck/lumberjack GW one. The RG banner is very well done as well. As RC said im not a fan of Elfhelm, but some different angled pics might change my opinion. Cyndra the Grey |

I can see how you're trying to make Elfhelm look but to me the head looks quite wierd. As Cyndra said, perhaps it's just the picture and a differently angled picture will show it better. |

I like the standard bearer a lot! I remember spending a lot of time carving Gamling's head away from the banner when I did my Rohan hero conversions. That's quite an effort! -- Pasi |

Thanks for the comments. Understand the Elfhelm comments and will put some other pics up soon. Perhaps I have used the wrong head in using the Commanders one but I wanted to have a conversion that tried to look like Elfhelm from the Film and not be a conversion with a gamling or hama head stuck on it. Have posted a couple more pics of Grimbold but still need to finish work on his head and helmet. Erkenbrand looks good, well done. I agree it's definitely the nicest of the Rohan minis (although I really like the newest mounted Eomer aswell). |

A couple more pics as promised of Elfhelm. As mentioned his face needs more work to him but the other angles should give you a better perspective. If you read between the lines regarding Isen it is obvious that the Rohirrim with Theodred where at war and so he would be armed with helmet and probably shield but in two minds whether to add shield or not. It's better to see elfhelm clearer. Also theodreds helmet makes him look a bit like eomer but still cool |

Very nice! Elfhelm looks a lot better now from the different angle. Very nice job! Good point about Theodred. Should be a bit foolish to send out the king's son into a fight without wearing a helmet. And... GW didn't do a great job on Theodred's head anyway! Well done! Just one more thing... Any chance you could take pics of the conversions / sculpts before they are painted? Sometimes it's a bit hard to see what exactly is done to convert. If Pasi (Valpas) didn't tell about the banner and Gamling's head, I wouldn't have guessed how much work it must have been. Great job! Keep 'em coming! |
