Hi I'm new to the boards but I've been lurking for months now. I started playing lotr about 8 months ago. I'm relitively terrible but there isn't really anyone around where I live to play against at all so I find I just enjoy painting the minis and playing a couple of people sporadicaattally around the state.

Enough about me. This will be the start of my log to just generally show off my stuff. I bought Mines of Moria months ago but have just recently painted up the fellowship. The pictures are a little dark but I don't really have good lighting. Enjoy!

I tried to make sting glow and I'm pretty alright with it. I wanted to do the same with Gandalfs' sword but I didn't think it would show up on his robes.

Sting looks excellent - really well done. A really difficult effect to pull off which you have nailed perfectly. Look forward to more of your work.

Thats great painting purple! I like Boromir, Frodo and Sam in particular. The red on Boromir is awesome. They just seem incomplete without the eyes done though, what do you think about doing them?

Wow! Some wonderful models here! 8)
How long have you been painting? These were my first models and the look sloppy compared to your excellent work.
I need to find some paint thinner so I can redo mine.
Job well done!

I agree with you 100% I have trouble doing warhammer and 40k eyes and their heads are twice as big. I have a local friend painter who is better at doing tiny stuff like that. The problem comes from my eyes and glasses. I wear glasses and I can't focus on things really up close and if I take them off their faces are blurry. So I'll probably have my buddy paint all the eyes for me. I know that's kind of cheating but I think it will look better than a nicely painted mini with wonkey eyes.

Oh sorry if I wasn't clear on my painting. I'm not new to the hobby just LotR. I started painting warhammer fantasy in 2005ish. Trust me my first models were terrible. I have an easterling army and some ring wraiths and an army of the dead I'll post up here pretty soon.

Thanks for the compliments.

Ah fair enough mate, I wouldn't call it cheating you've done all the hard work... great job, looking forward to more! :)

Amazing reds and blues. I really like Boromir's horn (which is the hardest thing for me to paint up).

As for the eyes, at this size, I find using black wash/paint/ink a blessing. Just a little goes a long way, I find that it adds a shadow effect that accents those areas of the face that I find difficult to paint...and the very least it causes a break in the paint to indicate where the eyes/mouth/nose are.

How did you do Legolas's bowstring?

@Scarpeiron; I've painted enough horns in my day on dragons and such that I have a pretty easy formula that turns out good all the time. On the eyes I didn't even think of that. Historical miniature painters don't paint the standard eyes on their minis they just do brown ink and shade them. Because realistically you can't see the whites of someones eyes unless their 15 feet away or closer. I'll try that today and see if that will work for me. The bow string is just bleach bone colored sewing thread with dots of super glue at each end of the bow.

@Everyone Else; Thanks guys. Really encouraging me to keep painting stuff up.

I started to take pictures of my other models but I can't get them to turn out bright enough. So here is all my ring wraiths and my cave troll. Anyone have any good tips for taking brighter more accurate photos?

Here is a photo I had laying around showing some of my Easterlings. I wanted to show it because you can compare how the ring wraiths are suppose to look. The dirt and grass alone are much lighter and more accurate to life.

Also on a side note I'm looking for the 4 other generic ringwrith poses. One holding his sword straight in front of his face, one pointing, one sword by his side in downward position (not in cloak), one swinging sword straight in front of him. (not swinging beside) If anyone has these for sale trade I'd appreciate it been watching ebay but mostly only see the 5 poses I already have.

I actually like your cave troll. Normally I don't like flesh tones for the body of cave trolls, but on this one it's spot on! Way to go. :yay:

I just got back from Adepticon LotR championship. I haven't had a chance to properly photograph my Easterlings yet and post them here so jump over to my blog and check them out.

http://purplesoundswargaming.blogspot.com/2012/04/adepticon-lotr-championship-game-1.html

I played against Dwarfs, 2nd age elves, and easterlings. I got stomped pretty badly but I'm pretty new to LotR so I'm alright with that.

Enjoy,

I just painted up Radagast the Brown. I plan to do all 5 wizards. I'm using the Sharky model for Alatar and he'll be next on the paint table. Enjoy
