Hi one ring!
I just finished my first warband of Galadhrim elves and Haldir which are the first minis I painted in my entire life so this first post will not be WIP as they are already finished. But I have ordered the three hunters and I’m planning to do a gray company warband with Aragorn so that will be the first WIP part here. The three hunters will arrive next Thursday probably and I’ll start on them then. Then I planned to buy rangers of middle earth. But for now you will have to do with my finished elves. I’m proud of them and think they are pretty good for being the first minis I’m painted in my life.

These are you first???

Holeee

Wow. Beautifully done, beautiful colour schemes, great detail, great fluidity of cloth colours and shine on the armour. Lovely basing.

I foresee awards in your future as you get even better. I need a nice despairing lie down - after seven, eight years of painting I'm about as good as you.

I wish my first were as good as this, well done indeed. The highlights are excellent as are the bases, looking forward to seeing the three hunters.

That's not bad at all for a first batch of miniatures!
IF that's your start, than I look forward to what else we can expect from you in the future, after some skill-growth!!
Well done so far! And welcome to the One-Ring! :)

Thank you guys for all the nice responses, and I’m sorry for the slow response I had a lot to do for school.

These are indeed my first minis, I have been called artistic since I was a kid so I’m somewhat skilled with drawing/making paintings. I bought them last month and bought the colors on the backside on the box that it said they used to paint them. I was not really happy with the red skirts they had, so I figured I’d make them blue as the arms so it was more like whole body suit.(blue being somewhat my favorite color :) ) And the cloaks are my attempt to trying to make them somewhat similar to the ones that arrive at Helm’s deep in the movie. And I ended up buying a lot more colors then the seven first ones I bought. In the present day I got 23 colors, all colors were not used on them but they were used in the process to see how different color and color combinations looked. I read a lot on forums like this one and guides/articles how to paint minis before I started so I had a rough idea how I would do them to get something that hopefully would look good in the end.

But as I plan to take on the three hunters I’m going to need green colors since I have none at the moment. So who knows how many colors I’ll end up with :P

So my fingers started itching too much and I could not wait in till Thursday so I went to my local GW store and bought the rangers of middle earth. Here are a few pictures of the first ranger to be painted.

Without any paint

With base colors and no washes/highlights

Finished him tonight, still got to do the base tho, but the light is no good in my apartment so I’ll take a picture of him tomorrow with natural light. =)

Sorry for the poor quality only got my phone to take pictures with.

Those Elves look very good! And your first minis you say? I don't believe that! :-D They are painted too good for first minis! Did you do any other painting before, like on canvas or something else?
The Ranger also looks really good! Love the colour scheme.

Just got my three rangers and I’m currently preparing Aragorn for painting will probably start on him tomorrow. I’ve done 5 rangers so far and I have started on a 6th.

Fëanor, the mighty elf these are indeed my first minis. I did some work on canvas in high school, my art teacher wanted me to start at an art school after my graduation and even got me a scholarship if I wanted to start at one. But since I’m more in to math/computers I choose not to do that. So I’m somewhat skilled with painting/drawing. Plus I read a lot to prepare myself before I started doing them, (knowledge is powerful tool) and the guys at my local GW store are really helpful if you ask them question. So I pretty much knew what to do before I started painting as I said =)

I finally finished my rangers and Aragorn \o/

I'm sorry that it took so long, had exams in school and had to do foresting at home for a week. But they are finally done so here you are guys feel free to comment and criticise =) (the photos are pretty bad, I got a phone to take pictures with only and not any good light really. The daylight hours in Sweden right now are pretty few.)

Next on the list to be painted is Arathorn and Halbarad picked them up yesterday, and I orderd a blister of the grey company. I'm really in to the Arnor/Dunedains right now.

That's a really great looking batch of Rangers. I'm very impressed with your skill level, for someone so new to the hobby. Like you, I've spent a lot of time reading up on various painting techniques and it helps immensely. My only problem is that I am a gamer, and I paint wi the intention of gaming, so I usually go for quick and efficient paint schemes. The monthly painting challenges around here push me to better myself, though. You should give it a go, when the next one comes around!
