Hiya

I've just started to make some progress on the miniatures from my Escape from Goblin Town box set... Yes, sorry it's another one of those WIP threads :)

Here's the first, it's Balin from Thorin's Company...

Don't be sorry at all, its fantastic to see everyone enjoying their Hobbit miniatures and everyone's different take on them.

Really nice painting, and bonus points for starting with my favourite dwarf :P

A very nice paint job. My only point is the black line between face and beard that I feel is too strong. If this was muted down to a mid brown tone then I feel it will remove the harshness.

The Road goes ever on and on.................
I kno the feelin mate lol

Re. the blackline between face and beard - run a little dwarf flesh or whatever its called these days over it and thin the black line a little and once dry a little ogryn flesh will blend it back in. Personally I don't think its a prolblem but an easy alteration to make if you so wish.

Awesome Paint Job look forward to many many many many many many many more lol

Your Gandalf is top-notch.The highlights are perfectly applied. What type of grass did you use for his base?

I refrain from commenting on Balin for I am already biased in his favour, (i.e. I think he looks great.)

Thanks for the comment guys :)

I see what you mean about the darker line around the beard.... I think it has come out worse in the photograph to be honest as it doesn't look so bad when looking at the model at arms length. Or at least i hope not :)

I like both versions, but I much prefer the version with the walking stick. You paint faces really well, and his scarf looks great. I'd surely wear it :-D. What type of shrubbery/tufts/grass did you use for the bases?

Thank you :) I agree Bilbo with his walking stick is my favourite of the two also...

The grass is just regular static grass, drybrushed to matt it down a bit, then the tufts are from MiniNatur

Next up is Kili, not really happy with the "freehand" work on his coat but I was on a tighS deadline to finish him... saving grace is it's not too noticeably when view the miniature with the naked eye.... :)

As always any comments or feedback is welcome

Thank you
