Work In Progress Lorindol

Hullo everybody!

I have been painting LOTR since 2001 when GW started LOTR and would like to share my experiences with you guys! Hope you like it.

This is my own home made paint station. I thought the plastic paint station of GW was ridiculously expensive and crappy. Then one day I found myself cutting up some materials and ended up with this. Basically this is where the magic happens haha







I wanted to trade with "typhoon2" As he preferred painted models I agreed to paint this metal OOP Knight of Dol Amorth for him. This is my current level of expertise I reckon..

I love your take on the two tone armor. I know the wings on the helmet make for alot of metal, and all one color really makes it look big. I think you nailed it with the more bronze color. Still makes the model look beautiful but seems to make the helmets look smaller. Very well done! I may steal this scheme. What colors did you use?

A good start with your painting.
Are you thinning all your paints before you use them ? There seems a little inconsistency in the texture. Some seem too thin, like the horses cloak yet the tail hair seems really thick.
The first thing for me would be to work on your paint consistency. For generals into g about 2 parts water to 1 part paint and build up with many coats. That way you will beta much smoother finish.

thnnks! I used dwarf bronze(hasnut copper?) on the helmet and gave it a wash of Agrax earth shade. Really makes the details stand out if you ask me.

For the blue I used the following colours:
Base --> Caledor Blue
Shade --> Drakenhof night shade
Layer --> Teclis Blue
Layer --> Lothern Blue
Gaze --> Guilliman Blue
This was not my ow invention really! A friend of mine gave me this tip and I think it worked out just great.

I really don't know what you're talking about I just water it down a little bit and or tap it on the pallet. I don't have any knowledge of mixing paints, watering down or anything like that. I have always been using dry brush techniques and have just been introduced with layering. Do you have any tips on paint consistency?

Thanks alot to every other post! I'm really looking forward to putting up more pics of my work. I think I'm going to make a "milk jug light box" to get better quality pictures.

Lorindol - no problems mate, just trying to hel you. It's probably the drybrushing that I'm seeing. Photos can be such funny things when it comes to seeing how the paint job has been put together.
Paint consistency and a move away from drybrushing for generally flat areas will help your painting improve.
Do like I say n the consistency 2 parts water 1 part paint and build up th layers. Don't ld your brush with paint as you should hav just enough on your brush to see it dry as your stroke finishes.

are you using a camera has it got macro, or phone use zoom, either way read instructions and then measure distance to figs use reflected light from both sides and place on better surface with sheet of paper behind

I've been busy with other things than painting lately so I'm back and here's some cool photo's of my elves! So far I've done the armour








Next up are some of my home made High Elf Knights! I had some galadrim knights which I have converted by swaping their heads and weapons.

very interesting elven armour, I like what your doing to those converted knights of rivendell, very unique poses :)

I need to work on my photography a lot!

For the armour I used a base coat of black. Give it a dry brush of chainmail metal and wash it 3 times with a yellow wash. It's a lot of work but a pretty cool effect

yellow wash? lol seems like bronze/gold variation to me :P
