Post subject:  Boromir Work in Progress ~ Gilcris

Greetings all,

A year after purchasing the Escape from Goblin Town box set, I am finally starting to really make headway on its contents. I live in Maryland (US) and recently discovered that a GW Bunker in the area has a LotR following, so I am eager to potentially get enough models painted to play with. :) I am considering either doing a Laketown force or a Hobbit-era dwarf force (though I have no idea what the potency of either of these forces would be, as I have never played a LotR game and don't have a sourcebook).

Comments and critiques are always welcome.

And just then... Gloin was finished! I truly love Goblin Town plastics. The detail they manage to achieve on these little folks is incredible!

I really like your models :) please continue to do WIP its always fun to view my fellow hobbyist's work.
I think my favorite is Gandalf for his base-work, that gives him the nudge to the top for me

Thank you very much and will-do. :)

On bases, I think I am going to add at least some type of static grass to the models' bases moving forward. Originally I was planning on omitting any type of grass in favor of a cave/mountain cave theme, but in nowtrospect I really think grass would liven things up a bit.

Very nice. Your faces are great, very natural looking. :)

The Erebor dwarves are pretty solid, if lacking in versatility. But they've got some good heroes to lead them, which helps make up for things. In the long run, if you went for them, I'd consider allying in some other dwarves, to give them some extra wellie.

The Laketowners seem to be fairly weak but numerous, and with a couple of weak heroes with unusual but potentially powerful rules, and one really good hero (Bard).

I agree a small amount of grass would help make the bases more lively. Not too much, just a clump here or there.

And it continues to amaze me when i see how far plastic models have come. The amount of detail they've managed to squeeze out of the process is outstanding.

Ah thank you very much for the info.

I think realistically I will end up collecting both, as I love both sets of models and it doesn't seem like this system necessitates the obscene amounts of models that fantasy does (the only system I've really dabbled in to this point).

Great figures and very well painted. The Gandalf is my favourite, love the sculpt and you've shown it off well with your painting.

Thank you all very much for the encouragement, it definitely keeps a person motivated when they would otherwise just lazily roll around in the evenings. :)

EfGT Radagast is next and a scenery piece is underway!

I am most of the way through EfGT Radagast and figured I'd post a WIP picture (as I don't know when exactly I'll be able to put paint to him again with the weekend at hand 8) ).

Thank you very much. :) Hopefully following a completed Radagast I can keep the paint hand strong and begin some Erebor Dwarves.

Post subject:  Radagast the Brown Complete & Thorin WIP

MERRY EVE OF CHRISTMAS EVE TO EVERYONE,

So I finished Radagast and am pretty pleased with the result. His front hand keeps looking a little flat in pictures, but I realized it's just because the camera is focusing on his face, hence making other things a bit blurry. The face of the EfGT Radagast sculpt is not done any justice by the photos on GW's website. They highlighted the cheeks to be way too light and darkened the recesses around the eyes to be way too dark (as they have a tendency to do) and just ended up making him look like a chubby-cheeked chipmunk. I was really relieved seeing just the plastic model.

I also have WIP photographs of Thror! They're WIP only because I hate the turqoise/teal that ended up coming out insanely too bright; as such I'm going to repaint them. Once I decide on a color scheme for Thror's clothy bits (feel free to voice suggestions; the colors I choose will probably be used for the warriors of erebor box I picked up as well!), he should be finished this evening. Aside from his hideous teal, I like how the rest is coming along.

I hope you enjoy.

Post subject:  Re: Radagast the Brown Complete & Thror WIP

We are almost there, folks! A time where we get to open presents but still feel like we're well in-the-hole, because let's face it: males' coinpurses take one hell of a hit around the holidays.

As you can probably tell by my previous post, after looking at my own pictures, I thought to myself: "In nowtrospect, Thror looks a little too bright when it comes to shield + cloth parts". To remedy the shield, I mixed a turqoise metallic that looks quite neat in person when it catches light and I think it makes a good deal more sense for the material of a shield to be such. For Thror's cloth pieces, I brought them down a few shades with a few diluted washes/retouching. The picture makes them appear a good deal brighter than they would in natural light, but thankfully in-person the mini now looks a good deal more reminiscent of movie Thror.

I hope you all have a lovely next few days.

I do really love that Thror model, and I always like to see it painted.

It really must count amongst GW's best sculpts in the range.

Post subject:  Re: Thror "Fixed"

Indeed! I feel like it may not do quite as incredible a job mimicing the features of its subject as say the Theoden, Thorin or Thranduil miniatures do, but by virtue of being made to resemble the coolest-looking dwarf yet on film, it is still just an incredibly cool-looking miniature.

I love this sculpt, one of the best dwarves ever. The painting is excellent, you have set this off exceptionally well.
