Post subject: | Re: Mapper - Bats! |
Thanks Kuribo, I think I will move the dwarves up in my painting backlog, they have dragons and goblins to fight. Finished Drûzhag and the bat swarms. Looking at the picture I need to go back and highlight the bats in the swarms more. Put Drûzhag on a base the same size as the swarms, wanted to offset his bats and add something to the base. Might need to add something else to the base behind his cloak, have to see what I have for bits. |

Pulled from the back of the pile, finally painted these. Never been too happy about these, cloaks make them hard to convert, poor detail, and never a fan of long spears in a forest setting. Done to my usual table top standard (in other words, don't look too closely at them) Getting ready to defend the crossings Led by a forest troll, the attack begins Against the troll Another shot that came out darker but I liked it |

Thanks! I forgot to include pictures of the bases. For a forest floor feel, I went with adding dried Basil to the base. |

Good on you for getting those elves done. I think they're among the worst LOTR sculpts as their faces are severely lacking in detail. Your base work looks great on them as well. I'm curious to see what you work on next! |

Post subject: | Re: Mapper - spiders,etc |
Still have Ashrâk to paint, but decided to do the spiders first. Usual Wizkids spiders, used the dead scatter pieces from the Mines of Moria terrain set as their bases. Goes with my Moria pieces Even with other stuff waiting to be painted, decided to do a few conversions. Converted an extra Gil-Galad to carrying a banner and changed the head facing on a high elf captain. Switching between painting uruk-hai scouts and dwarves so decided to do a Saruman instead. |

On Youtube, there is some grainy footage of the battle you can find. I'm sure someone who knows more than me can explain where that footage came from but it really gets you thinking what a scene of orcs and elves in Lorien could have looked like in the movies. I'm looking forward to seeing you paint those elves up and the conversions look great! |

Post subject: | Re: Mapper - scout command |
I really need to do those metal uruk-hai scouts on my table but keep finding other things to do. After doing Saruman, I felt he needed a command base. which needed a banner... so I converted Uglúk to be a banner holder. Scout command group "One of the Halflings carries something of great value. Bring them to me alive, and unspoiled. Kill the others!" |

It was a deleted scene, I can't remember if it was that the Fellowship were going to get chased into Lothlorien by Moria Orcs or if it was them trying to attack Lothlorien, as I seem to remember they do in the book and the Fellowship hear them from the flets. |

Post subject: | Re: Mapper - back at it |
Been awhile since I've posted. Had a bit of LOTR burnout, wasn't happy what I was doing with what was on my painting desk, went with another game for awhile. Slowly getting back in this. Saw where someone else had changed Gandalf by repositioning his hand, tried it and destroyed his hand. Ended up cutting a hand off a wizkid wizard and putting it on Gandalf. Casting a shutting spell on a door. Ashrak done, last of my current moria goblins to paint. And because I found a nice piece of lichen in the yard, Galadriel. Ended up stripping what I had started on my metal uruk-hai scouts, so will be working on them next. |

My last LotR burnout lasted 12 years, 3 movies and several iterations of the rulebook. These days I use LotR as the variation when I get fed up of something else. What did you turn your hand to instead? |

It was two months for the first time in years I hadn't painted a LOTR figure, or at least felt like painting one. Guess the size of the lead pile had got to me. I went to my second love in movies; Alien and Aliens. Bought the figures that Gale Force Nine had for their Aliens, Another Glorious Day in the Corps game. Something different to try in painting. Bought some Battle Systems walls for an environment. |

Post subject: | Re: Mapper - metal scouts |
These figures have been sitting on my work table far too long. I finally took everything off my table (at least three projects, associated paints, etc), put it all away then pulled these guys back out. I need to curb my shiny object mind and focus more on completing one thing at a time. Once I get to a store I will go back and standardize the rest of the bases for my scouts. When the weather gets nicer, might pull them all out for a raiding of a Rohan village. Until then, advancing through burn out buildings. |

They are great. The ruined building bases are very well done, a novel take on scatter terrain. |

Post subject: | Re: Mapper - conversions |
This Rohan figure is my most converted figure. The Right arm/sword is easily shaved off and replaced. Conversions to date: latest is a Captain for my Last Alliance Battle Company I'm currently painting. Captain for my Southern Gondor force With Horn With Spear With axe Repositioning of sword With bow, conversion started, waiting to do other Rohan Problem iwth taking pictures of tabletop standard is now I have to go back and fix eyes |

Post subject: | Re: Mapper - Last Alliance Battle Company |
Did a quick Last Alliance Battle Company to test out a paint. I paint to tabletop standards, and wanted to try out a new gold I had received as a gift on some elf armor. Applied the tainted gold which has a green tint to it, washed with a green tone wash, highlighted with the gold, nuin oil wash, highlighted again with the fairy dust. Gave me a quick elvish gold I wanted, don't think i need the green wash next time. |
