Grate bases!

Thanks, Polak! I'm always glad to hear someone likes my basing because it is something I spent a lot of time thinking about and working on.

I'm back with another hobby update! I've been working on Scouring of the Shire stuff mostly with my favorite Ruffian sculpt finally painted.

I also got my first piece of Shire terrain done as well. Other than battling against warping, it went smoothly and I'm pleased with the final results.

Nicely done field! The rabbits will love it with no fences :-) Kidding aside, very well done.

FYI, if you edit your first post you can change the title of the post to better reflect what you are doing.

The farmer's field looks great -- very hobbity. Was the scarecrow hand sculpted?

Haha, thanks Bret! I was going to do some hedges along the edges but decided there wasn't enough room. Instead, I'll do some modular hedges in the near future. I figure I can use up some plasticard on that. Thanks for the tip on editing the first post. I knew you could do it, but couldn't figure out how.

Many thanks, Dave! The scarecrow is resin and purchased from Hexy over in Poland. It took nearly three weeks to get here to Chicago and it took some gap filling and sanding but I'm happy with the final result to be sure. You get two in the pack and some pumpkins so there's some good value there for around $20.

Still chewing my way through Ruffians sculpts. Got five more painted and based up so I thought I'd share a group shot of them.

That inspired me to get all of the ones I've painted thus far out and take a group shot. Having 9 done feels good and I look forward to knocking out three more so that I can get to playing Scouring of the Shire scenarios in the nearish future.

The Ruffians are looking good! I mean evil!

Can't wait for your take on the Scouring of the Shire scenarios. Keep painting!

Thank you Rognarr, Dave, and slinky! Much appreciated.

I took a bit of a break from Scouring stuff to paint something more as a display piece. I have plans for a much larger piece for this lady but here she is:

I figure she is one of the best MESBG minis I have painted yet.

I also got this ugly guy done. He was pretty quick to paint up and ready to cause some carnage in The Shire!

I'm feverishly working on terrain so expect updates on that in the near future :)

Lots of great minis and terrain, thanks for sharing the excellent results of your brushwork!

Always happy to see a non-traditional color applied to a figure. That green is exceptional both in color and execution. My Galadriel still remains in my ever growing metal mountain.

That is a great Galadriel. You absolutely nailed the eyes.

Wonderful work with the crop diorama. It has real charm, I like it. Those ruffians look like a menacing bunch - wouldn't like to meet them round the corner.

That piece of terrain from Shire looks beautiful, same as every base you made.
Ruffians are solid, but they are shining a bit, probably because of used wash. If you have matt varnish you could use it. Don't worry about the bases, I'm varnishing my minis and nothing happens with it.
I like that subtle highlights on Worm, it's hard to achieve such smooth looking worn black coat.
Galadriel - nice work, but I'm not a huge fan of the green colour you used.

Nothing to do with Scouring of the Shire, but I ran across a comment by a Kuribo on a Age of Sail minis site. Was that you?

I'm (obviously) into the Age of Sail myself, though so far my collection is limited to one painted frigate and six other ships that have sat on my painting table primed but otherwise unloved for, what, like, six years now?

If a different Kuribo .... nevermind. :)

Thank you all for the kind words! I really appreciate it. I've been chipping away at her husband so you might be seeing more elves in the nearish future!

Paul - Thanks for the suggestions. I agree that some of the Ruffians are shining too much. I use matt varnish on them but it almost seems as if they need another coat. I will probably give that a try in the near future to try and dull them down.

DaveT - That sounds awfully suspicious, doesn't it? Was it A Terrible Loss of Lead and Wealth? If so, that is run by Stew who used to post on here a few months ago but I'm not sure that he does any longer. He plays MESBG though he also is into historicals as you can probably guess! I got to know him from this site and enjoy following his blog no matter what games he writes about :-D

I agree, that Galadriel is very well done. The green tone for the cloth suits the character well.

Thank you Feanor and slinky! I really appreciate it :)

I have mostly been working on terrain lately and it has been a while since my last update so I thought I would show off what I've been working on. It has taken a while but I'm finally ready to play Farmer Maggot's Farm scenario from Scouring of the Shire!

Since I can't buy any new minis from GW, I'll probably be dipping into my backlog to try and clear some stuff out so who knows what I'll be working on next!
